I do not think PS4 will do as great in Japan as it did elsewhere in the world. Japan is changing, they had difficulty transitioning to the HD era and never fully took advantage of the capabilities of the PS3, save for Kojima with MGS4. 1 single or a few graphical beasts from the entire Japanese industry in the entire 7th gen is crazy considering Naughty Dog made 3 graphical beasts themselves in the span of 4-5 years.
Looking at TGS, Japanese industry dont seem too committed to next gen, it will hurt them, and it will hurt consoles in Japan. They still live in last gen, releasing PS3 games till 2015 or even 2016. They did the same with the PS3 and it was the right choice to do back then considering PS2 was still a beast and PS3 was in a mess. This time however is actually the right moment to get back in the game and start right from the beginning due to the easier to develop for architecture of the PS4.
If they dont try now they will never try it. And it's a big mistake and miscalculation of Japanese devs to not localize their PS4 games in these times of few games. If Yakuza launched now it would have no competition, people just dont have enough games to choose from so these games would get a lot more time in the spotlight.
Don't lynch me PSX Mafia but I will not be surprised if PS4 soon reaches levels between WiiU-PS3 around May or June. Just like the PSP was outselling Vita for some time. Lifetime sales for PS4: between 7-10 million.
