Forums - Sony Discussion - Should/will Sony acquire Ready at Dawn?

Just wondering what other people thought about the plausibility of Sony acquiring Ready at Dawn. Will they? Won't they? Can they? In my opinion it would be a tentative "yes" given their previous history developing psp games and the potential critical/commercial success of the order: 1886. Also, by acquring them now, you prevent the future possibility of MS or Nintendo contracting them to make an exlusive for their respective console.

If they dont acquire the studio then what's the possibility of the studio developing multiplatform games in the future, or even exlusives for Nintendo or Miscrosoft?

In my opinion Sony need to act now, or at least plant the seeds (if they haven't already).

They should have done it a long time ago. Ready at Dawn is extremely talented and The Order looks fantastic.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

If The Order is successful, I'm fairly sure they will buy Ready at Dawn, yes.

But then again, they never bought Insomniac, so who knows.

I would love to see a game from them on the 3DS. I guess it's just a matter of time before they start to embrace other platforms.

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

I guess it will depend on how "The order" will perform.

So far they had only made good games using a famous established franchise.

I'm pretty sure they will eventually do it, or will be just kept as second party. I'm pretty sure RaD is pleased with that agreement cause it gives them stability.

Much like that canadian studio that made luigi's mansion and mario strikers and stroke a deal to become second party.

i would say a lot has to do one if RaD wants to be aquired. a hostile take-over would be bad for everyone.

Supposedly Ready at Dawn already has a permanent area in Santa Monica's new building. I think there's a good chance they're becoming first party.

If Sony still owned Spyro I would like Insomniac to become first party as well but I can live without Resistance and Fuse.

Whats the fascination with buying studios?

Let them make the game, if its good and it sells then they will support the PS4 again. Why spend millions buying a studio?

So they can continue to develop exclusive games for PS4? Why not? Sony didn't buy Insomniac and now they're making an exclusive game for the XBO.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Sony doesn't need to buy them out, they're confident that having the more powerful console that will have a significant sales advantage/larger install base, many 3rd party devs will be happy to develop exclusives for them, and certainly multiplatforms. MS can't buy out all the 3rd parties.  PS4's GPGPU compute also indicates the direction of PC gaming, so optimizing for that feature of PS4 will be applicable to future PC games as well, even if the level of optimization isn't quite the same.  Developing for PS4 can leverage that PC market carry over as well.  If relations between Sony and these devs is good, and the conditions they can offer are materially attractive, Sony just doesn't need to worry about anything.  Will some(not necessarily RaD) also develop multiplatforms, or maybe even do an exclusive? Sure.  But on the whole Sony has no reason to fear that 3rd parties in general will not reliably support them, to the contrary, they seem set to do great in that department, what with offering the more powerful console and a signifigant advantage in marketshare vs. XBone.

They will acquire them as soon as they try to do something non playstation.
