Forums - Gaming Discussion - Did Sony really pull in all these Console Sales or did Microsoft just push them away?

Who done it?

Sony pulled people in 72 55.38%

Microsoft pushed them away. 57 43.85%

Total:129

Both, but mostly PS4 pulling people [back] in for all markets other than USA and UK, and mostly MS putting people off in USA and UK, IMO. IMO if MS hadn't stupidly thought their DRM could fly through under the radar, or rather if they hadn't arrogantly thought consumers were stupid, then Xb one would have launched with notably higher numbers than PS4 in UK and USA. But everywhere else PS4 would still have launched well ahead, though not sure about Aussie.

You can say the exact same thing about the 360 and the Wii, they got an early lead because of all the mistakes Sony made with the PS3. Yes Sony profited off of Microsoft's missteps with the XBO, but it's foolish to think that's the only reason they've succeeded with the PS4. If that was the case then the WiiU would also be a big success. It takes more for a console to succeed than having the competition fail.

I guess my question would be then what are the other reasons why the PS4 is doing so much better then the Xbox One?   The reason why the Wii U is failing is easy to see, and it has nothing to do with hardware specs whatsoever.   They moved 2.3 million (2nd best launch ever at the time) in the first 5 weeks on the back of NSMBU and Nintendoland.  Then Nintendo literally only released one game for 8 months and that was a Lego game with no attached brand (if Undercover was Lego Zelda, Pokemon, or something else it could have been huge).   Then they tried to push consoles with Pikmin 3 (Never been more then a 1.5 million seller, even in its hayday), the Wonderful 101 (Gamecube game made 10 years later), and a Zelda Remake (Remakes only sell 30-40  percent of their original, destined to only be a 1.3 - 1.5 million seller).   Wii Party U should have been Mario Party U (more brand recognition).  SM3DW was the only game to boost sales (995k in December) and with the overexposure of Mario, there was no way on its own it was going to move some crazy number of consoles.   If DK and Mario Kart were released during the holidays like they originally were suppossed to, it would have no doubt outsold the Xbox One(1.5 m), and would have given the PS4 (2.15 m.) a very strong run for its money.

Xbox One version looks brighter and better. PS4 version is darn and you can't see details. Go Xbox One!

Play both in to have a surprise

To your average consumer they are the same, lets be real now.  Call of Duty looks the Same. FIFA looks the same. Battlefield looks the same.  PS4 has a little more juice but the graphics shown are the same and thats all that really matters.

Yep, completely identical :p

Seriously though it's too soon to make any judgments on the impact of the PS4's extra power. Multi-plat developers are still getting into the swing of things and Ryse/KZ:SF are pretty much the entire list of exclusive we can compare for graphical capabilities, and even then they are both worlds apart (fps/3rd person, art styles, etc). We don't have a big enough sample size yet.

If by better you mean brighter, flatter, more washed out, and poorer fine detail, then sure it's "better".

A bit of both. But It's definitely not about the price. The consumers that care about price differences haven't even started buying yet. It's only hardcores so far and they apparently liked the message of Sony and the stronger piece of hardware more. While MS showed their ability to communicate properly once more turning fans away. I mean there are still a lot of people who don't know about the 180.

Are you insane? The helicopters on the PS4 version look like flying tadpols where on the Xbox One version they look like real helicopters. !!!

pricepoint and no year headstart

Also saying x1 has better games is just your opinion not a fact. And NO they DO NOT have the same specs.

No its not. Xbox One has more exclusives and total sales have been higher.  We dont have numbers on Killer Instinct and Resogun, but KI is a game fans had been begging Microsoft for now for years and should no doubt have a bigger impact then Resogun.  All the 3rd party games have done much better on PS4.

PS4(1.75 million)

Killzone - 1.25 m.

Knack - .5 m.

Xbox One (2.2 million)

Forza 5 - .92 million

Dead Rising 3 - .64 million

Ryse - .64 million

Sales=Quality GOTCHA! Therefore today, January 19 2014, I proclaim Call of Duty as the best game ever.

Also might aswell add fighter within and zoo tycon while you are at it.

It's not purely just the sales its just the reality.  I don't own either consoles but the combination of Killzone and Knack is no doubt worse then the combination of Forza 5, Dead Rising 3, and Ryse.    Either way for both consoles what it means if that no one really cares about their exclusives (for now), because Call of Duty,FIFA, and Battlefield have outsold everything by far.  Assassin's Creed IV on PS4 has the exact same sales as Killzone as well.

Lmao, You guys just proved my point.   It's so marginal do you really think your average person gives a crap.  It's Call of Duty.  Both dominated the sales charts on PS3 and Xbox 360.  Unless one looked way worse then the other its pretty irrelevent.  The Wii U version of Ghosts looks better  then the 360 and PS3 versions (I compared the 2 on 2 of the same TV's side by side, that I will stick by), and no one bought it.

A litt bit of A and B. Also, the majority of the OP's statements are either subjective or flat out wrong.
