Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ubisoft wanted Splinter Cell: Blacklist to sell 5 million copies - only sold 2 million

Raymond says Ubisoft aims to sell about five million copies of Blacklist.

Ubisoft already warned investors that Splinter Cell Blacklist and Rayman Legends failed to meet the publisher's initial sales expectations. In a post-earnings conference call yesterday, the company shed a little more light on their performance to date.

Splinter Cell Blacklist has sold close to 2 million copies, Ubisoft revealed

Ouch, Splinter Cell: Blacklist numbers are pretty bad according to VGChartz. Only 700k on 360 and ~600K on PS3.

Conviction sold 2 million on the 360. So maybe they expected it to do 4 million on PS360.

It felt very ambitious and I assume it had a big budget. Great game, go play it people!

I bought it but haven't gotten into it. I'm working my way backwards.
Have to beat Bioshock Infinite
Batman Origins and then Splinter Cell.

Serves them right for what they did to the series.

Uh ohs. A buddy of mine moved to Toronto to work for Ubisoft when they were starting Splinter Cell. Hope they don't go axing people.

Hey at least it did better than I expected. Game looked pretty good but the market just seemed to move on.

Generally a game that isn't from an overly popular annual franchise has to be good to make that many sales.

It could have, with proper marketing and good reviews. I saw a few ads but not many that mattered.

Meta score was good, but the lack of marketing hurt the sales.  That and the SC 'faithful' being big babies about stuff ...

Oh noes. Ubisoft pulled a Square Enix.
