Nintendo seems to have finally convinced their natural market that the U is something to call home about, after the solid week to week sales in the land of Musashi. The answer as to why, to me at least, seems simple: offscreen play. After having the U for about a month, I find myself playing it much more on the small screen than not, taking it with me to many points in the house (and maybe their next plan is to find a way to stream from much farther, but that is not what I plan to say here). Needless to say how much they love portable gaming around those parts.
I mean, wow, if we were to consider the market WITHOUT the 3DS, WiiU would be, by far, the best selling system the last couple of weeks there. I know PS4 has not yet landed on those tracks but, if we take what is happening now in, say, the US, where the sales of the U are not much far from those of the PS4 (even though the latter has all the hype train to help it) as any indication, Japan is to see Nintendo rule there again (and I remember my very old prediction that this generation is going to suffer from the lack of the Wii phenomena and not sell as well as the last one did).
And why do I think this is good? Japanese games! I want them to go back home where they belong! MH3U is there. Platinum exclusives are there. Dragon Quest (even though I don't care much about this one) is selling well. The Hyrule Warriors project. It's all good news for those who, like me, have grown with much more japanese content than western one. And I don't give a cripes ass to western developers in consoles since they are usually on PCs too.
Thoughts?
