This will be a funny thread to come back to in about a year.

Remind me again where will japanese people play NEXT GEN Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, Yakuza, Metal Gear Rising, Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo and Street Fighter series among others? Oh thats right on PS4.

Wii U with one year ahead of games and exclusives can't beat a console with no stock to be found.

I absolutely agree with you except the Ps3 pretty much will also have most of these games (Save for the huge franchises Kh3 and Ff15 although.....lightning returns)  And if the last year of psp /vita simultaneous release have taught us anything, it is that the newer console doesn't benefit from it.

im really interested in seeing how Wii u does this gen. I think that at least in the US and Japan, it really has a chance to do well, maybe even doing better than the Xbone, although I don't know what the deal with Europe is, is the culture over there really that much different than both the US and Japan (which already have incredibly different cultures to begin with).

Seriously people, stop. No, the WiiU will not outsell the xbox in the US. The WiiU will do fine in Japan, but Dominateit will not.

I disagree about it not dominating in Japan. Sony has pretty much sacrifice it's position in Japan to perform a deathstroke on MS in the west. Nintendo already has begun to capitalize on it by making and building up partnerships with the likes of Sega Atlus tecmo and Capcom. And for a country that is so handheld focused the ps4 has a serious disadvantage. PS4 will do fairly well in the long run though.

When will this Domination start?

I believe that the foundation has already been laid. The strongest bricks being Sony's lack of prioritizing the japanese audience.

Well, lets hope you are right because I just don't see it. Nintendo has history of doing crazy numbers in December but thats just one month.

This is true. We will see.

Well i'll throw in my conspiracy theory into the mix as to why wii u will win Japan.

The Wii U sales seem much bigger than a holiday boost to me considering how bad it was selling.

Sony has betrayed their own country
by not releasing the PS4 there around the same time, whilst the Gajin's get one first. The Japanese are are proud people and therefore will support the other Japanese console instead.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase PS4 at any time, nor will they purchase any other sony consoles. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and redirect all your next shippments to japan or you can kiss your business goodbye.

If you try to report me or respond to this message, i will put your answer as a perpetue remider that you know nothing about internet rage history :)

Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

I got them from gaf from this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=740203. I don't know what were the LTD numbers for GCN at that specific time. Sorry. However, in that specific thread, you can find some Media create/famitsu threads dating up to 2004.

Thanks! I'll start some research, I guess.

No problem!:). Gl with it. If you find some interesting data, please share it with us :P

Found something weird. It's about Nintendo statistics and it says DS is 158mil and Wii 101mil, and 3DS isn't there so it's supposed to be 2011 numbers: http://www.statisticbrain.com/nintendo-company-statistics/ But this is totally wrong I guess.

GC launch numbers are comparable to Wii U's with 300k for both.

And best I found, Media Create's hardware sales per year. From 2000 to 2007. http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Media_Create_sales_figures GC in 2002 sold 925k. Wii sold just better it's first year with 989k, and I don't know which year we're comparing Wii U to. I did my best.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

You have a good point.

A holiday boost, no competition and numbers still below Gamecube levels for christmas equals ruling Japan now? I think this is a very premature statement. That said; I'd be surprised if any home console manages more than 12-15 million in Japan this gen.

Right.

GameCube, 2002:
Week 49, 39,849
Week 50, 44,902
Week 51, 66,410
Week 52, 60,290

Wii U, 2013:
Week 49, 46,773
Week 50, 72,982
Week 51, 119,159

Wrong:

GameCube, 2001:
Week 49, 52,806
Week 50, 100,882
Week 51, 168,268
Week 52, 130,719

That was Gamecube launch year, the other comparison is december of the first full year.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

The Wii U starts to sell to the casuals in Japan with games like Wii Party U. That didn't work in the west.
I guess many still like motion controls (most people expected it to be dead now). It won't be a Wii-like hype, but it will help.
And Nintendo hasn't much competition in this regard. The Japanese will most likely ignore the X1 and PS4 abandoned motion controls.

And 3D World will manage that the Wii U won't drop as hard as early last year.

I guess the PS4 won't outsell (LTD) the Wii U in Japan in 2014 (but everywhere else, it already did in some countries). FF XV doesn't seem to release in 2014. The interesting games for a Japanese audience will take it's time.
