Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox One outsells PS4 at Target despite being $100 more?

It would just confirm that we are surrounded by mouth breathing dude bros over here in the US. They aren't gamers, just UFC/NFL/COD players that think their testicles will fall off if they are caught by their friends playing anything that looks "kiddy" like a Mario or Zelda game.

What makes COD,Halo,NFL and Gears fans any less valid than us? Playing Resogun for 8 hours is no different than playing COD for 8 hours. A game is a game. Just because you don't like their types of games, doesn't make them invalid. Don't be angry because more people play AAA FPS online than games like Journey. Just enjoy what you enjoy and carry on. It's a waste of time hating people like that imo.

So you expect ps4 sales to drop to Wii u levels then since most PS fans got the ps4.....

Let us all forget the 2.3 million ps4s back ordered at GameStop.... And the fact the ps4 outsold the Xbox in the u.s, and the fact you can't get a ps4 anywhere right now, can't wait till a couple of months pass, I'm tired of talking to Xbox fans who throw away the power difference and tout its the same for 100 bucks more crap in person and in the forums

Never trust gamestop, that 2.3mil is so farfetched. I remember them stating the same thing with WiiU but to a lesser extent (i think it was like 700k-800k wiiu pre orders backup after 1st week of sales). Thats impossible considering WiiU lifetime sales after January/February.

Anyway PS4 is definitely in back up supply and it will be the Wii 2.0 all over again!

There was a thread that cited an article correcting the 2.3million PS4 number. Apparently the 2.3 milion was for the Xbox One and PS4 first to know list. I believe this is the article: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/11/gamestop-2-3-million-people-still-waiting-for-a-ps4/

As for Xbox One outselling PS4, it is probably due to a more limited supply at this time. They are both selling pretty much all they can supply right now. Whomever can supply the most to them, will sell the most for the time being. It does however, put into question the rumors of problems that the Xbox One was having with yields and production. Guess time will tell.

In theory.

Except you can't avoid it when it's so financially lucrative. It's a valid concern when the mainstream success of those games spills over into other developers and franchises hoping to cash in.  Resident Evil and Final Fantasy for example are two franchises that were destroyed by their devs hoping to get a piece of the Call of Duty pie.

I was fortunate enough to be around during the golden days of SNES and PS1 so it REALLY hurts to see what has happened to gaming once it went mainstream and games were directed by investors and quarterly statements instead of gamers and game developers.

Those people buying COD every time it comes out are directly responsible for driving the direction of the market and for MY beloved franchises and genres being nearly wiped out this generation.

Every time I hear some frat boy in line drooling over another photorealistic military shooter saying "yo that sheeit is mad tyte dog" it reminds me why there aren't any RPG/adventure/platformers anymore, so they can go die in a fire.

It's hard to tell. Target may have gotten a much larger supply of PS4s at launch and they were already sold out, while MS reserved some for Black Friday, yet still shipped less overall. So, it may very well be the One outselling it at Target on Black Friday (but just enough to make that list), while overall the PS4 is ahead.

Then you also have Walmart, which stockpiled PS4s for Black Friday. We'll just have to wait til we get official numbers before we know how well the systems did on Black Friday.

I actually expect the Xbone to be leading in North America for most of this gen. Americans just seem to like Xbox more than PlayStation, whereas Europe tends to be much more PlayStation oriented.

Not me. I'm more of a Nintendo fan & a Playstation fan, & I'm an American.

Awesome! But at large, Americans seem to prefer the 360 over the PS3 but obviously not all Americans. I'm sure there's at least one Japanese person that thinks the 360 and Xbone are the dog's bollocks but they're few and far between as far as sales figures show.

I think the PS4 will take an early lead in the US, but I think the Xbox One will reclaim the top spot in the US by the end of 2014 between Titanfall, Halo 5, and Quantum Break. UK will likely follow suit, Xbox was the top dog there this gen as well.

based on what? Last gen and this gen are two completely different worlds

They definitely are. And even going by last gen, Sony outsold Microsoft by about 8 million units.

I agree with you & Leo. Microsoft winning America & the UK with Xbox One like they did with the Xbox 360 isn't a guarantee.

Past success =/= future success. Look at Sony from PS2 to PS3. Look at Nintendo from Wii to now Wii U. It's hard for a company to be successful twice in a row, & Nintendo barely got that with the NES & SNES, while Sony did it with both PS1 & PS2.

I think the PS4 will do well initially in the US but it's legs will be shorter than the X1. The X1 will have surpassed the PS4 in the US this time next year if not earlier.

I understand how you feel. No one likes to see what they love slowly vanish into dust. Like you, I've been around for a LONG time (NES generation) and I've seen things come go. But that's the thing. Genre's, they come...and go. Remember when every console had an animal/human mascot? Remember when platform games were what FPS games are now? Things change. I miss the days when games like RE1,FF9 and Nights Into Dreams were coming out too, but that's just the nature of life.

Remember tapes? CD's? Hell, remember downloads? haha. It's just how it is. I'd say, if it bothers you so much, maybe you should just stick to retro gaming. Either that, or go totally indie. Alot of what we use to have is happening in the indie scene.
