Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies Launch Thread

So it's been a while since my last Phoenix Wright, but were all the characters always this crazy? It's like there isn't anything close to a single "normal" witness in the game. Not that it's a bad thing. I'm on day 2 of case 4 atm, my favorite witness so far might be the "genius" glasses dude, he's hilarious. Finally got one of those in the series, eh?

I do like the interface improvements. One of the worst things about the early games were the obscure things you needed to examine to progress in the story, which isn't a problem here. The idea chain thing done to finish the cases is great, too, though I wish the answers were less obvious. I've also liked most of the witnesses, and unlike the older games, it hasn't graced me with any unbearable ones yet (like that old lady, or Ini Miney). Though I guess Robin Newman comes close, he's incredibly annoying...

I've got mixed feelings on the music. I've loved all of Noriyuki Iwadare's stuff since Grandia, but I feel this soundtrack is a little too soft in comparison to the rest of the series. I liked the orchestrated / jazzy stuff for the Edgeworth game, since it suited him, but I feel like the soundtracks here needed a little more oomph. I've been missing that intense/raw feeling from the earlier games' soundtracks (especially the first, despite TT's soundtrack being the best overall).

Being able to play as three different characters is really awesome, though. All three not only having their own different themes, but special powers, makes me appreciate them more. Apollo's bracelet and Phoenix' Magatama powers making a comeback really hyped me up. The Wright Anything Agency ain't fuckn around, yo!

Oh, one thing I almost forgot to mention - the cutscenes are incredibly cringe-worthy. I wish they stuck to using them exclusively for the case intros. And no dialogue from the main characters, please!

Every game had its fair share of crazy witnesses, although Dual Destinies is probably even more over the top as usual.

The cutscenes are cringe-worthy, because they are anime and that's cringe-worthy by definition.

I was ok with most of the cutscenes that Athena didn't talk in. She sounds like she's transitioning between European, to full grown American woman, to a 12 year old American girl every time she speaks. I wish Wendee Lee would pick one identity and stick with it.

I liked the cutscenes, thought they were well done. Maybe it was just me....

In case you didn't know, I have a comic book called Guardians. I'm the writer/creator of it, and we have four issues out right now, with our fifth coming out soon!

We're also doing a Patreon right now for the comic, and I'd appreciate any and all help in getting it funded. If 56 people pledged $3 per issue, we'll be funded

I do too, although some of the more cringe worthy lines come off as even more cringe worthy when there's actually someone audibly voicing it as opposed to blips making noise. I really liked the two cutscenes involving Edgeworth in Case 5, particularly the one where he and Phoenix go head to head (even if that's a little cheesy as well).

Barely starting case 4 but, so far case 3 in this game has broken the chain of the 3rd case in all ace attorney games being the worst/being awful.

Speaking of voice acting in Ace Attorney, Klavier's voice is nothing like I felt it would be. I was kind of hoping for a German accent considering how he always uses German words and says "ya?" pretty often. I was also thinking his voice would be about a level or two deeper. Maybe that's just me?

Klavier was a major disappointment for me. No disrespect meant towards Lowenthel, but if you're going for a European rock star voice, there are plenty of better places to look.

Yeah.  In my opinion, Edgeworth got the best fitting VA.  I'm not sure if it's my imagination, but Apollo and Phoenix seem to have the same voice.

Apollo is voiced by Orion Acaba, and Phoenix is voiced by Sam Riegel. There's a few instances where you get to hear them talk, and you can tell that Phoenix is slightly higher pitched then, but yeah, there were a couple of instances in the game (particularly in Case 2), where Apollo would object after not talking for a while, and I wasn't sure for a second if it was Phoenix stepping in or Apollo just objecting.

Klaviers voice changed from Apollo Justice to Dual Destinies. His "Objection" had no accent like it did before, I caught that instantly.
