Oh look, Super Mario 3D World is shaping up to be an incredible game. Who would have thought?

Bummer about Donkey Kong Country: Tropic Freeze though, it was quite a feat to have four of the greatest platforming franchises to appear on one console this holiday season (Rayman, Sonic, Mario, Donkey Kong). Ah well, looks like I have a new must have for 2014.

The Streetpass Relay is a great touch as well. One certainly wasn't enough so that's a great change.

And Sonic's back in Smash! I really hope he's improved from Brawl though...

All in all a great ND with cool new tidbits and even a couple of surprises. ^_^

Wow. The new 3D World footage sold it for me. It looks superb. I'm almost crying.
Donkey Kong looks amazing as well. I still have to beat the Wii game, but once I buy a WiiU, I'll be picking it up.
Never played a Mario & Sonic game. Maybe I'll buy this one.
Excited for Sonic in Smash Bros. I'll be getting it for 3DS. Speaking of it, are the titles really Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/WiiU?
I need Sonic Lost World now.
Kinda disappointed in Kirby's new game. Looks too much like Return to Dreamland, which I didn't enjoy much.

It was a great direct, at least for me.

I think the DK delay will prevent a software drought early 2014, which I think is a good move.

As always the Japanese direct had lots more. But we at least we had some Ace Attorney :)

When does Mario release in the US?

Nov 22nd same day as LoZ (US) Europe its 29th.

Surprised about this ND, was a lot better than I expected.

3D World looks A LOT better than before, which is definitely a plus.
Sad about the delay of DKC, but well nothing we can do
Zelda: A Link between worlds looks really good, while I'm not a huge fan of 2D Zelda games this definitely catch my interest, plus it can only benefit the Wii U one.
Never cared about Kirby
Phoenix Wright looks good, that reminds I have to play Apollo Justice...

Overall good ND, we kinda needed one after so many bad ones in a row.

I'll be honest, as a WiiU owner what excited me the most was the fact that Zelda will break the items/dungeons rule.

That could mean a lot for Zelda WiiU!

I dunno. People get hung up on the demand for non-linearity. They don't understand the consequences that has on the complexity of later dungeons in the game.

Iwata simplified the Zelda formula, effectively lying and feeding into the non-linearity hype in the process. He said traditionally you would only get new items during dungeons (not true at all) and that puzzles in the dungeon in which you acquire a new item will be solved by using that item.

But this is misleading. Zelda games take into account the arsenal you've built up over the course of the game. This means that by the time you reach the final dungeon, you could be facing a puzzle which requires the use of any or all of the items you have already acquired. Look at Ocarina of Time: did you get the Hookshot in a dungeon? Weren't you using that Hookshot in every dungeon for the rest of the game after getting it? How about the Bow & Arrow, did you stop using that after the Forest Temple? Wasn't the Megaton Hammer still needed after the Fire Temple? This holds true in more recent games as well. The Beetle obtained in the Skyview Temple of Skyward Sword is used liberally throughout the game. Bombs in the second dungeon... the gust jar in the third... the whip in the fourth... these items are used to make the puzzles in the final few dungeons more complex.

Heck, you rarely obtain the dungeon item at the start of the dungeon (in the next-to-final dungeon this can be slightly more commonplace). You spend the first half of the dungeon solving puzzles without the use of the dungeon item.

All of this comes around to the point that if you design a Zelda game around the idea of non-linearity, you sacrifice this complexity in dungeons. I can pick up the hookshot and go into whatever dungeon the game will let me go into and know that the hookshot is the only item I'll need to complete the dungeon. Watering down late-game dungeons to appease fans who want to play the same game a thousand times and have a different experience every time (the video game equivalent of having your cake and eating it too) is not the way to go in my opinion.

You are just making that up part.If we have no idea how they will solve the non-linearity in the 3DS game, even less for the WiiU one.

And having X object doesn't mean that we will be able to beat said dungeon just using it and nothing else.

Have you noticed that we can rent or buy the objects? Why the 2 options? The rent will be based on time or uses? I have the feeling that when we rent them, we wont have enough time/uses to go to the dungeon and beat it, encouraging you to get the real deal, which will only be able by having a prior object, etc.

The question is if buying is the only option to get the objects, which I hope isn't. That is, unless the implement a work system/missions that allow you to earn enough money to buy them. And that by itself will also be a game changer.

That why I said it could mean a lot.

Wait and see.

Please excuse my bad English.

I'm not making anything up. You can get the Hammer and finish the Hammer dungeon (which has already been playable, unless that dungeon was made for demo purposes). If you don't want to do that, you can get the Hookshot and go do the Hookshot dungeon instead. What's the point of letting you do the dungeons in any order if you still need to get the items in a certain order to complete them?

LMAO !!!
Ace Attorney 5 is Mature (17+) ??? Bwahahahaha !!!!

It is USK 12 here in Germany, we are talking about the same USK that banned so, so, soooo many games over the course of the years (Goldeneye, Resident Evil 2, Gears of War etc.)

Did I miss something ? Are we talking about the same game ?

I'm so glad they focused on the single player aspect of Mario. Good one.

Zelda looks amazing, BD looks phenomenal and PW looks outstanding.

What does the 3DS have for 2014 though? As a gamer I'm glad about BD but realistically it should have stayed in 2014.

Kirby, Layton vs Phoenix and Yoshi's Island are the only ones I can think of. Smash Bros. and MH4 might be ready for next year.
