Forums - Sales Discussion - Elite selling big (at least at amazon it is)

Unfortunately since the Elite was released so close to the end of the month it's doubtful we'll get to see what affect it had for awhile.

I stopped by Wal-Mart and Best Buy today. Wal-Mart had at least a couple Elites alongside some regular 360s. Best Buy has a display table with a bunch of Elites and accessories. I think they got a huge shipment, so I dunno how well they're actually selling.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

As I've said before Amazon ranking is a very bad way to determine popularity ...

Awhile back I was curious how many of any game related product it took to get (close to) the #1 spot on Amazon.com; after watching for a couple of weeks and looking at the stock numbers for several top ranked items it turned out that #1 would be (roughly) 20 items sold per day.

Beyond that, there are lots of places that have Elite systems in stock

I dont believe that for a second. Amazon is a huge national place. They may be a small percent of overall national sales but 20 in a day is a joke. A SINGLE BEST BUY STORE can get 20-40 wii's and sell them in a day. You're telling me amazon that goes out to the whole country sells less than one store in one chain!? Yeah right. Whatever methodology you used to derive that was extremely flawed I'm sure. Do you think Amazon sells only 20 Wii's a day? Yeah right.

You cannot tell anything by looking at the stock numbers. I've read articles about the amazon sales system and they stated you cannot tell anything about qauntity sold from ranking, only amazon has that info. In this case they were talking about books, but it applies to all products.

Another thing which makes your story extreme bunk was, in the article about book sales they were talking about rankings in the 5,000 to 7,000 range. If the top seller in videogames was 20 items, then only like the top twenty items in videogames would probably have even one unit sold, and hundreds of items would have zero sales for the day so why do they rank down into the hundreds and lower? It would be a like a 4,000 way tie with zero unit sales. Makes no sense at all.

Seriously man, try to think a little more cautiously..

The links for elite you listed in stock were both canada, btw. I live in America.

I also just looked and itrackr has national Elite availability at 33%. We all know their system is flawed but nevertheless this is a pretty low number (by comparison as of my spot check this post, Wii=19%, Guitar Hero 2 360=62%, Wii remote=79%).

I'd say at the least MS has sold through most of the first shipment..

Best Buy.com America:Sold out (although they sell out easily)

Wal Mart.com only has an expensive bundle and it's sold out:

Circuit City has it at the top of their best selling products list on their homepage as of now (this may change, I'm typing this at 12:30 AM Saturay)

It IS in stock as of now at CC though (probably why it's top seller)

Target.com and EBgames.com dont seem to carry the sku yet as I round out the top retailers.

I've just checked Amazon.com, and the sold out Wii, which can only be bought from 3rd party sellers, is currently on #1, while the 360, which can be ordered directly from Amazon.com with 1 week handling time, is on #20.

Eh, Wii always beats PS3 and 360. The point here is that Elite is selling damn good contrary to the naysayers.

BTW earlier today Elite was outselling Wii at amazon.

BTW I dont know where you get "one week handling time, Elite is currently NOT AVILABLE from Amazon, plain and simple.

"Availability: This item is currently not available."

Wow, it amazes me how desperate some people are to not admit 360 doing well...

BTW, Wii is available from 41 resellers at Amazon versus only 8 for the Elite..

Yeah, the list changes hourly, so it's not very dependable. I just wanted to give a counter example.

So everything is plain and simple in your life, ey? When I checked a couple of minutes ago it said "next shipment arrives on May 12. order now" or something. Now it's sold out again. What gives? And what is your Wii statistics supposed to mean? I see a lot of small companies trying to make an extra buck from Wii shortages.

And I guess you referred to me as "some desperate people"... I don't even an opinion on the 360 Elite. It's just a minor hardware revision, not a new console.

The Best buy I work for we got 16 on "elite" day we still have 4.

I think all this elite idea is sick. It costs way too much and makes all weakness of "classic" X360 even easier to mention. Because of this  many customers may find standard version as inferior not only to new X but also to PS3. It won't generate any hype. I think only users who already want X may buy an elite version instead of "classic" - that's all. Anyway this model with such overpriced HDD is profitable for sure .

With the number of 360's that break, I can see the Elite being chosen by gamers who don't want to deal with the old system anymore.  Really, if Kutaragi would have though it through he'd have released the 20gb PS3 first then the 60 later.  It's always better to release an upgraded version than to start off with multiple versions of a system.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

The elite is back in stock at amazon and selling less than the PS3. for reference, the PS3 has consistenly been above the 360 on amazon, yet overall, the 360 is selling better
