Sony was hurting for cash and didn't have the leverage Nintendo had -- 3DS looked like a sure thing and was releasing first. Capcom went with the system they felt would have the bigger userbase, and they weren't wrong on that.

I hope Nintendo or Capcom are releasing the digital numbers..

What fall? 3DS received MH3G, another version of 3 (people played it on Wii, then 3rd on PSP and PS3), and sold like pretty well for Capcom (passed sales plan greatly). And on home consoles MH was never such popular as on portables. So latest releases, like 3G HD on Wii U, are not telling much about MH popularity in Japan. MH4 is completely new game, not port, not anather expansion of old title. It's selling like hotcakes.

And even 4 won't beat 3rd in sales, it'll be a big success. Capcom's sales plan for it in Japan - 2,8 million till march 31, 2014.
