Forums - Microsoft Discussion - MS's Working on Siri Competitor named after Halo's Cortana

Link:http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/12/halos-cortana-is-reportedly-microsofts-new-siri-competitor

"Microsoft is reportedly prepping voice command software called Cortana to compete with Apple’s Siri and Android’s Google Now. According to ZDNet, Cortana “will be able to learn and adapt, relying on machine-learning technology and the "Satori" knowledge repository powering Bing.”

ZDNet’s sources report that Cortana (presumably named after Halo’s AI companion) will be “core” to future versions of Windows Phone, Windows and Xbox One. Back in July, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer referenced “a family of devices powered by a service-enabled shell,” which now appears to be in reference to Cortana’s capabilities. According to ZDNet, that shell “won't simply surface information stored on users' phones, PCs and consoles like a search engine can do today.” In Ballmer’s words, it “will support the experiences layer and broker information among our services to bring them together on our devices in ways that will enable richer and deeper app experiences.”

Windows Phone currently includes basic voice commands, and Microsoft has already trumped up the voice capabilities of Kinect for its upcoming Xbox One. For now, Cortana has yet to be officially announced or confirmed, but we’ve reached out to Microsoft for more information and will update this story with any comment we receive."

Maybe it's just me, but I think that freaking awesome.

That's really cool. She could be advising and doing things for you just like she does The Chief. Although, I kinda rather have Master Chief.

I used the text to speech functions in Window Phone 8, and sometimes it gets it right, other times it is hilarious.

I wonder if they will bring back Microsoft Home or something like it. So on the way home you could tell Cortana to tell you whats missing from the fridge for a fancy dinner, generate a shopping list, turn on the air conditioning and get the hot tub warmed up to 104F 40C.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Of course this is cool, we can all feel like MC when talking to our devices.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

Time to go buy a Windows Phone just for this feature!!!!

Is this new or an evolution of Tell Me?

If it doesn't have Jen Taylor's voice then :'(

so basically.. everything Apple does Ms must do?
