Amazing. Perhaps M$'s prediction of this gen growing leaps and bounds above the last are coming true.

or maybe it will peter out..

gamecube, wiiU, and vita had some of the best launch day  sales of any system yet things quickly turned sour just weeks after release.  don't get me wrong, i'm excited for these pre-order numbers but i am also very wary of them.  true success will need sustained sales not just a huge launch.

Quite. The only trend this indicates is the growth in gamers who are more involved and more willing to put money down ahead of time. If Nintendo had put out a GameCube successor for 7th gen, the totals would have been roughly stagnant.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

PS3 also sold more this summer than 360

Did it really? Very interesting, I think that more or less might seal the deal that NA might be the only true battleground.

Outselling for 3 months is nothing close to what the Xbox has done in the last 8 years in the UK.

Of course not, it just shows they're willing to buy Playstation now unlike the US where the 360 is STILL winning week to week, right as the PS4 is about to come out for $100 cheaper than the One.

Dam, just imagine what's gonna happen when Sony's big studios reveal their PS4 games.

I am calling VGA 2013 for Uncharted. It seems to be a tradition with them.

The Playstation 2 still holds the record here in NA for the biggest grossing console launch ever:

Over $250m for console/game/peripheral sales with just over 500,000 systems sold in its first 24 hours.

If the PS4 can top this record then color me impressed.

It will be good to see both these new consoles flourish at the beginning. Both are great with great games.!

Glad to see the console with the most support (so far) is supporting indies. Not sure how long this AAA space can last in its current form.

8th generation Sonys for the taking? doubt it MS and Nintendo still have a few tricks up their sleeves, should be an interesting war.

I think that with everyone being burned for not pre-ordering games/systems in the last 4-5 years and seeing the extended product outages afterword, people are being proactive to get the system for the holidays. Either way, pre-selling a million of anything is impressive.

What makes you think AAA is going away?

Ballooning costs combined with sequelitis. Something's got to give sooner or later. If it changes the way it's operating, sure I can see it surviving. But the AAA space needs to get back to a point where far less than a million sales is still profitable IMO. Otherwise people won't take risks and we'll have the same few genres recycled until people get bored of playing the same games over and over.
