I do the same, but I have to admit; I got hooked by the gameplay and the customization options in this game, and that pushed me forward. Besides, there are chapters worth mentioning (Especially those not-centered on dungeon crawling or beating enemies) that are pretty enjoyable. I'd say that while it is a shame they didn't work well the storytelling, the rest of the game hold up on itself.

Yeah... I agree... the storytelling is quite all over the place, but knowing that outlaw likes stories, I wanted him to see it for himself... I hate having even minor game details spoiled to me really, so I'm very reluctant to even mention them myself Outlaw didn't seem to mind though.

Leveling is indeed a little complex.

Generally, deal lots of damage and level up is the rule. However, there are exceptions. Such as firing at a high level enemy with a low skill, or finishing it off after lots of scratch damage with a weapon you barely used, such as grenades.

I can tell you for fact though,  Distribution of exp is similar across all characters and weapons. The evidence is that two of my machine gunners, Leanne and Zephyr, having each half the level Vashyron had, who used a pistol/grenade to finish off said enemies after Leanne and Zephyr both deal their scratch damage. Thus he dealt direct damage equivalent to both of their scratch damages, thus getting ~2x the exp.

His opinion about storytelling and the ending were content-less, so I didn't mind at all. Didn't really consider it a spoiler.

And I still only have one machinegun. I have taken time to let others use machinegun to get much needed level ups (Vashron is 15, Zephyr is 13, and Leanne is 12).

No worries, you'll get there.

@Wright: Ironically, didn't have to grind. Then again, I didn't do the dungeon in the black hex...

HEY

That's called lazy.

I made up for it by doing all the extras in Star Ocean 4.
