Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Could Nintendo do anything wrong with the 3DS that would allow the Vita to over take it in a few years?

If the ps4 sell 200 million and the vita becomes sony kinect it has a shot, but to make sure they better knee cap the 3ds. But as for Nintendo doing something nope.

Simple, accidently release their games on the PSV instead of 3DS.

Pokemon X/Y exclusive on Vita - the only way...

no even that way lol

if nintendo start focusing on WIIU instead of 3ds and sony starts focusing on vita instead of PS3/4 then maybe it might be possible

Only if Nintendo end the 3DS early and release the next handheld. A bit like how the Wii was ended early. But Vita outselling 3DS overall even in Japan is quite unlikely even then. the gap is massive. Vita is about 5.3 million while 3DS is on 32 million. It just doesn't compare.

Prediction: Switch will sell better than Wii U Lifetime Sales by Jan 1st 2018

Imagine the arrogance of Nintendo if they actually were like yeah we are raising the price of the 3DS to $400+ but it is ok! I would say most would give up on the company as a whole and vita would get more backlash sales.

Nintendo announces that for every 3DS sold they will toss newborn pug puppies from the top of their headquarters.

They would only sell 50k weekly then.

It is unfortunately impossible.
The VITA has a great potential, but even if somehow Nintendo make a huge mistake and the VITA starts doing well, it wouldn't be enough.

If Nintendo made all their games for Vita, then maybe, lol. I don't think Vita will reach the 31-33 million WW the 3DS is already at in its life time.

The Vita's saving grace is that it will outlive the 3DS. It will probably still be selling as Sony's main portable, perhaps as long as 2022, long after the 3DS has been replaced and possibly discontinued. The Vita's saving grace is that Sony swallowed the biggest loss in history to launch it, and it basically is competition for Nintendo's gen 9 hardware, not gen 8.

Actively screwing up the 3DS before it starts to gray, though? No way. I haven't seen a single idea on this thread that would actually hurt the 3DS during the next 2-4 years, when it will be doing most of it's sales and growth.

Even focusing on the Wii U won't hurt too much: Nintendo has their major 3DS titles out, and with spinoffs like SMT X FE in the pipe? Did you hear about the FE/ SMT $30 back promotion they're doing? They're practically gift-wrapping third party support. The 3DS could always use more, but it's basically outgrown the need for first party content.

Switching to Sony, things don't really change, either. If the Vita slashed it's price to match the 3DS XL, it still doesn't have a library or memory because of that proprietary memory card.

What are you going to do? Bleed on me?
