The rumor about the price cut is mine... based in what?

Well I know Sony was trying to die shrink the RSX and Cell to lower production process in 2013... the actual console uses these chips:

RSX: 40nm @ 114mm²
Cell: 45nm @ 115mm²

Sony roadmap shows they wanted to made a last die shrink in 2013 before to move to RSX + Cell SoC (it's a chip with both processor together).

And now I get that from Digital Foundry replying to Anand (AndandTech) in twitter:

@anandshimpi On a related note, the word is that there's a new super slim hardware revision with a 28nm RSX... 22nm Cell next year.

That means that the new PS3 Super Slim SKU launched at E3 is already using a RSX in 28nm ad the Cell will be shrink to 22nm in 2014.... after that finally the SoC RSX + Cell.

What that means for us? The PS Super Slim is cheaper than the previous one... so Sony can repasse this difference to us.

Price cut coming?

I guess so... and that's looks in line with the PS4 launch (everybody expect a price cut for PS3 before PS4 launch)... gamescon?

PS3 is still in a position to move serious numbers considering it's still at a premium price.

If it went $99 it would go VIRAL.

The PS2 slim eventually got a slim (SCPH 7700X? 7900X?) with a combined EE+GS chip... though I don't remember price being cut until the "super slim" SCPH 9000X... 50/50 IMO that Sony cuts it... so it doesn't look expensive vs PS4, but Sony needs the money the PS3 would gain them.

PS2/Wii(not Mini) cost more, so $149 at max.

And i still think that there is no need to do price cut before ms, since ps3 more valuable right now.

Insane tech with shrinking but I think ps3 will never reach $99 in the next 2 years. Just because shrinking happens doesn't mean it is way cheaper to produce. The tech in ps3 is still very advanced and it will still cost a lot to produce it.

Didn't Sony announce a GTA V bundle with a price?

I don't think we will get a price cut until next year, keep all the focus on the PS4 and a bit on the Vita

A price cut would be good, but it's not needed right now.

Sony will only do it if MS make it first.

Hey! They actually turned a profit for that first time in quite a long time last quater... after selling off many assets.... They really need some money!
