Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next-Gen (2018) will be digital only, online required, streaming entertainment boxes.

Android and iOS will mercilessly crush whichever console going digital-only too early.

Too early, I can see digital purchase increasing since Indie games will fill the void of the middle-ware games but the triple A blockbusters will still have physical copies. Unless they want to alienate a good portion of their fanbase around the world.

Well that does seem to be the trend at the moment.

Sony has already publically stated it will be going all digital. It's just a matter of when. (they have no timeline). They want to ease into it. Probably when their cloud service is fully developed, and they have enough servers in place.

Link?

Looks like it will back to Nintendo only for me then......

Havn't got the link. It was  an interview with Sony's V.P. on some website shortly after MS'  bungled launch. Not going to search for it either. Some fanboys will put a spin on it like Sony's  previous 10 year plan thread.

By then I might not even care about playing video games anymore.

I'm highly doubting that we'll see a new home console from the Big 3 in 2018. Best case scenario is us getting at least one new dedicated portable.

I'm going to miss going to the store to by games, that's for sure... And that's me thinking of the Xbox ONE in the coming gen! I'll still buy retail here and there though.

Looks like you are setting yourself up for another "I was wrong all along..." thread. Then again, like last year you might just be predicting stupidity on the console manufacturers' part instead of what is going to resonate with consumers and lead to success.

I've only made one of those and it wasn't in relation to this topic from last year.

Though I admit, Nintendo is the one most likley to not follow my plan in the OP. Not to say I would be sad with that, but they do want tangible stuff more than the others. Maybe back to carts. :)
