This didn't quash anything, it made it a bit worse actually.

Doesn't this sound familiar now? Xbox risking failure for doing something every single fan and their mother thought beyond stupid....hmmmm. Nope, can't remember right now.

I don't think it's stupid, there goes your theory... Also,
This didn't quash anything, it made it a bit worse actually.
Only if you didn't read it...

Why not? The big 3 all do this on a regular basis.
3 folds = 2x2x2 = 8x
Moores Laws -> 2x every 1,5 year.
(8 years)/1,5 = 5.333
Equi power -> 2exp(5.33) = 32x
So, the raw power should have been 32 times!!!
However Moore´s Law is slowing down.

Huh?
Poor yields =/= failing consoles. It just means that each chip is more expensive than planned and they have less of them than they thought OR not enough that perform as they want.

90nm, 65nm, 45nm, 28nm [32nm-class]
=2^4 = 16x the transistor count expected. Actual is less because they want to keep power and die size down, and because logic scales poorer than that.
20nm for consoles is 2015, 14nm is 2018++

Don't the costs from the poor yields fall on Glo-Fo/IBM in this deal? Less chips is a worry but it shouldn't cost MS any money through wasted silicon.

The poor yields rumour is from the guy who FIRST told us that the PS4 and Xbox One would be AMD CPU+GPU. I think we trust him? |
Even a broken clock is right twice a day ...

Is that the same guy whose 100% correct record has gone spiralling this last month? Not exactly bet your house on it reliable anymore.
I'm pretty sure he never started the rumour about the downclock though anyway.
