Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I have never seen Nintendo so out of touch.

It's just bad because you always know what they will show (and even more). Stop reading through the internet 365 days a year and expecting huge things @ E3.
There are almost 10 Wii U games now that I will buy. Which is enough for one year. And I like that I was allowed to see some videos of the games before release.

If I was responsible for PR, I'd never tell anyone about a release until 1-2 months before it's happening. That way you keep hype. And it's P(!!)R, not business R.

They also refuse to acknowledge online play where as Mario Kart on the Wii's online worked so well - if you're gonna have a 4 player mario game, put it online for gods sake.

They're so stuck in their ways it's not even funny anymore - I said give me galaxy or brand new Zelda game and you can have my money for a Wii u and here i am still waiting.

Online was detailed on the Mario Kart 8 developer direct.

here are the details:

up 12 players online, you can make your own tournaments, set rules, share your replay videos on mario kart, tv miiverse functionalities and it runs 60fps. It's almost the same as mario kart 7 but with a few extra features.

I think people need to watch the developer diaries. The games are actually better and more polish than most people think. I'm sold on donkey kong and Super Mario 3d world.

Yes, but that's partly the fault of Nintendo. They should have included them into the ND. Make it 20 minutes longer and take time to explain each game. If you didn't stumble upon them on Youtube chances are pretty low you've seen any of them. Big mistake on Nintendo's part.

I think Nintendo did mention in the direct there was dev diaries and trailers in youtube and reggie mentioned before e3 that there will be a lot of content in the channel. Regardless these dev diaries are quite good and go in sufficient detail. People go check themo at.

Do you really believe the internet infrastructure can properly handle the precision and fast reaction speed of a Mario title?

not where i live like (north London) - I even have to have Netflix set to medium quality as high (5mbps) with 2 people watching different stuff at same time will kill i.

Even on a good connection, the movements would come in too slow because of the nature of internet itself.

Something a slight adjusting a jump - one small, yet very key Mario feature - would have to slowed down or removed because you character would already have landed when those commands got over the network.

Nintendo would be forced to neuter Mario gameplay style to make it work. If Mario is one thing, he's gameplay. In some it wouldn't be Mario.

Besiders Local co-op is still the best system seller. People who are online already own a WiiU.

Pretty much every game they release has local co-op and it's not selling many systems.

It wasnt the best at all for nintendo, all it told me is i dont need to bother with a wiiu until after mid 2014 or sometime in 2015 and it will be a much better experience.

It doesn't surprise me that this was a divisive E3.

However, I don't see how it's the worst one. This was several times better than the last couple of E3s combined.

There was barelly anything new to get excited for, lacking such wow factor is not what I remember Nintendo for.

They sacrificed more power in the box to have a fancy tablet controller, and yet in the trailers they completely fail to mention any implementation of it at all ?

Also, this is second wave of software, there should be games showcasing a more decent level of graphics and physics, but appart of X that clearly seems like a next gen game, and mario kart 8 to a less degree, the software just looked... 360ish...

I would say look at the Developer Directs. Hopefully that will clear things up for you.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

As a Nintendo fanboy their E3 showing satisfied me, but I feel like it didn't succeed overall in showing why anyone beisdes the diehard Nintendo fans should get a Wii U. The two big disappointments for me were firstly, not having a fully 3D Mario platformer. Seriously a 2d/3d hybrid like 3D Land for the Wii U makes zero sense. Especially with NSMB2 and NSMB U still being relatively new games. The last thing Nintendo needed was a 2d Mario of any kind. And yeah I know it's not strictly 2D, but it's not strictly 3D either, which is what it needed to be. Those are always the Mario games that really show off what their system hardware is capable of. I don't feel like 3D World will do that whatsoever for the Wii U. It will very likely be an excellent game, but it also looks like it could easily be done on the 3DS, and would be a better fit for that system. The 2d/3d hybrid worked so well for 3D Land because of the stereoscopic 3D of the 3DS, which Wii U doesn't have. So that was a massive mess up on Nintendo's part in my opinion. 3D Mario is always their chance to show what their home console is really capable of, and I think they missed that chance with 3D World.

Second big disappointment was DKC Tropical Freeze being Retro's big WIi U project we've heard so much about the last year or so. Kinda tying back to 3D World, does anyone really need another 2d Nintendo platformer right now? Yeah they're great, but they're just becoming sooo over-saturated. And a DKC sequel was always last on my list for what I hoped Retro was working on. Even Prime 4 would have been a lot more exciting and fresh since its been awhile now for that series.

Was most happy with X, Bayonetta 2, Smash Bros, and surprisingly Mario Kart 8, which actually looks like a much needed change of pace for the series. The whole Mario Kart Galaxy feel definitely has me intrigued.

I think Nintendo decided against holding a traditional E3 conference for a reason this year. Through their Nintendo Directs they have been revealing new games and other major announcements every other month for a while now. Perhaps we should stop thinking about E3 as THE major event where Nintendo is gonna blow out all the big news. So in this regard I don't feel Nintendo is out of touch.
Nintendo fans also seem to forget sometimes that Nintendo is a business. So while I can totally understand why fans might be disappointed by Nintendo playing it really safe, it's quite understandable from a business perspective. Nintendo might deny it but it's quite obvious to me that they are trying to maximize their ROI with games like Mario 3D Land for WiiU. And until sales of WiiU improve drastically I doubt their strategy will (or should) change anytime soon.

Totally agree - no Wiiu game should have the word 3D in it's title.

Untill this point, for the few games they released, it hasn't worked. I would say it's mostly due to mixed message to customers.

The new 3D Mario should be backed up with a solid message and a marketing campaign (if not a pricecut).  If this fails, then Nintendo has a big problem.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I'm assuming you didn't watch Nintendo's 2008 E3 then if you believe they're out of touch.
