Microsoft is preparing 300,000 servers for Xbox One on day one.

This is apparently spin, according to Jonathan Blow:

More cloud processing BS: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/24/report-xbox-one-performance-upped-by-cloud-processing/ … Someone please call their bluff on this.

Also, someone please ask if these fabled 300,000 servers are real hardware, or just the total size of Windows Azure (which then implies

XBL would only ever get a portion of that).

(I am going to launch an online indie game and claim it has as many servers as Amazon S3 has...)

Oh that indie developer, who created one $10 game in its entire career and just signed a deal with Sony, does not like XBL.
He might be a good designer for puzzle games, but there are way smarter people at MS when it comes to cloud computing.

I think it is funny that MS spent bilions on R&D for cloud computing and have thousands of people working on it for years and one indie game designer comes up with this. He never did anything in the cloud except having a mail account on amazon.

You never did anything either. So at this point, either you blindly believe their PR, or you're skeptical like most people.

Seems you already chose. Which was expected.

No, I am not chosing any side.

You blindly follow his view and I am skeptical on his knowledge for cloud computing since he has never ever done anything with it and therfore has no experience at all. He is just a designer for puzzle games. You should be skeptical for both parties.

I just see the potential for hybrid games getting data of the cloud and from the disc / HDD. Of course this is something his games will never achieve due to lack of budget, skill and experience.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I'm not blindly following his view. xD
I was skeptical of this "feature" the moment it was mentioned during the reveal event, when they mentioned the XBO would be 10 times more powerful than the 360, but 40 times when using cloud computing... Yeah, right. ¬_¬

You'd be skeptical too if you tried to understand an ounce of what they're talking about instead of blindly embracing their PR, if you'd understand how the internet works, and how a console receiving this data also works, you too would be skeptical. Like Digital Foundry are, by the way. Surely, you won't tell us that they don't know their stuff and that they shouldn't be skeptical either?

But if MS can prove my belief wrong, all the better. Because if they can prove the future lies in that kind of tech, then others will follow suit.

XBL will certainly be a major component in how successful X1 will be. I'm looking forward to hearing more about how they're improving the experience over last gen. Changes to the online marketplace are what I'm most curious to learn more about

Instead of addressing this Jonathan Blow guy's actual arguments, you simply try to discredit the person : "Mimimi, who is this guy anyway? What does he know about cloud computing? Cloud computing has a lot of potential!"

Yes, cloud computing indeed has a lot of potential for gaming. But unfortunately that's just irrelevant here. One hardly needs to know what cloud computing is to realize that there's something strange about that "300.000 servers on day one!"  number:

There are currently about 80 million Xbox 360s out there.

All these 360s are currently served by 15.000 Xbox Live servers.

300.000 servers is 20 times that number. And 20 times the number of servers means about 20 times the cost. But at least in the beginning, there will only be a few million Xbox One owners out there who are paying. So the costs would go up about 1900% while the revenue would decrease by about 90%. That just doesn't make sense. If these servers were dedicated Xbox Live servers, it would instead make sense to start with a small number and constantly increase the number of servers when more Xbox Live owners arrive. That's also what they did on the 360: It started with 3000 servers, and as the userbase was increasing they installed more servers and are now at 15000.

So the number 300000 indeed sounds like it's simply the total number of Windows Azure servers and thus more of a sham.

And, they are upping it so that you can have 1000 friends.

But I am still a bit annoyed I can't Play Xbox Live Arcade games on it. You can play then in Windows 8, why not Xbox One?

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

could you please provide a link to the source that confirms that Xbox Live on Xbox 360 will be shut off the day the Xbox One launches?
Otherwise your whole argument is screwed.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

LOL people dying to get their questions answered about the Xbox One so they can decide if they want to get it

before they get a PS4 and Microsoft holds back the most important part the games and leave it for e3

the reveal wasn't for gamers Microsoft is annoying a lot of people at this point as E3 is still some days away. LOL!
