Don't see whats all the excxitement about. Its too late and pointless that it finally overtook the xbox360 as it ook towards the end of this gen to just catchup . Plus Sony lost alot of fanbase considering when ps2 finished the gen with at least 155 ish million so to dro to 77million is alot ofo fanbase lost. Plus sony lost alot of money with ps3 and even used the profit made by teh ps2 jsut to survive with teh ps3. They are barely making profit whereas with ms the uerbase greww alot , made atons of money ,, stole quite alot franschise that were originally on the ps2 . After considering all of taht the achievement itself is good but nothing extraordinary. In fact to lose that much is pretty much disappointign as i loved the p1 and the ps2 to death. Therefore xbxo360 already won :). Yes i know you guys will say oh teh xbox had a one year advantage. Thats a pathetic excuse to use as the wii surpassed the xbox 360 easily and it came out teh same time as the ps3. Don't forget Ms hasn't had price cut for 360 for ages adn all they need to do to retainm the second place spot is to cut the price to a point where sony can't afford to drop their price and sony will be third again. Ms can afford to it more then sony sadly. Remember theres a juicy announcement for 360 thsi coming e3 which is not to far away.

The PS3 finally overtakes the XBox 360 in total sales. Next step is for the the PS3 to keep selling until it reaches 100 million sales and closes down the gap on the Wii. The PS3 can still win the 7th generation console sales war.

No kidding.

- The lowest selling console is still on track to sell around 80 million units. 
- This gen will be 8 years old by the time the PS4 and Xone are out, and will still see plenty sales for a while after.
- The PS3 started out with a disastrous launch and a $600 price point still ended up being second (by a sliver), while the 360 nearly quadrupled the X.O.G.'s sales, eating deep into Sony's marketshare alongside Nintendo, and still ended up being third (by a sliver). What's more, it took over 6 years for Sony to surpass MS in sales.
- Meanwhile, Nintendo nearly quintupled the Gamecube's sales with the Wii and went from being a close third to a solid first place.

One thing's for sure, though; no way in hell are total hardware sales going to jump so high over last gen (almost 25%!). If anything, I expect it to shrink by more than it grew this gen.

It's a bit of a shame X360 never sold well in Japan, X360 really stomped on PS3 in the US, Mexico and a few other markets. If X360 and PS3 were anywhere near parity in the US this would have happened ages ago. PS3 is going to lose 19m or 20m owners from PS2, just in the US, and probably almost 60m owners globally (I figure 97m PS3 vs. 157m PS2 lifetime).

Yay! More reason to party.

The 7th generation will end up like this: PS3 on 103 million + 1 units, Wii on 103 million units, XBox 360 will finish on 87 million units.
7th generation will continue on until the PS3 overtakes the Wii and claims the 7th generation console sales war. A Pyrrhic victory but a win is a win.

The PS3 still has price cuts up its sleeve and gamers will be keen to catch up on prequels to popular games ecclusive on the POS4 before they fork out the cash for the more expensive PS4. The PS3 will become the casual console of choice in early stages of 8th generation before the price cuts and game library builds. 

For how much is the determining factor. 20M is no easy feat.

Edit: Also, PS3 isn't PS2, which makes this a little harder for you Sony guys. Again, if it happens, it will further prove that this gen was the weirdest in sales. I will contribue to that cause to catch up to the Wii too by buying one.

PS3 can sell another 25 million console systems easily and claw back the gap on the Wii. PS3 should overtake the Wii in 3 years time and take advantage of PS3 price cuts that can be used in 2013 and 2014 to build sales momentum.
