On October 13, 2009 Sony and Naughty Dog released Uncharted 2, and to say Uncharted 2 had a big splash on the indusrty would be an understatement. Uncharted 2 literally changed the indusrty, it was praised for its wonderful looks, amazing characters, stunning set piece's and so much more. it was every gamers dream.

Uncharted 2 went to win over 200 game of the year awards in 2009 and is still hailed by many as "The game of the generation". UC2 effected not only how games are played, but how they are made and how they are presented as well. its effect spread out in even more established franchises like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Whether you like UC2 or not, there is no denying that it did change the indusrty in a major way, but this thread isnt about that. its about The Last of Iwant to changeUs.

"I want to change the fucking indusrty, man" those were the words of Neil Drecuhmann, the Creative Director of The Last of Us. To put it simply Naughty Dog wants to change the way that story telling is done in video games. they want to raise the bar for it, and they are hell bent on showing the world how a story should be told.

The Question is, can Naughty Dog change the indusrty twice in the same generation? can the last of us change video games?

to make it clear, who ever comes in trolling, flamming, spamming or trying to cause trouble i wont hesitate to report you. also this thread is about TLoU changing the industry, and not how uncharted did.

I never really thought about it but i guess NaughtyDog might actually do it

There is absolutely no information available to give you a reasonable answer. You'll either get overly hyped people saying yes based purely on faith or overly negative people challenging that Uncharted 2 had any meaningful change on the whole industry.

My personal answer is no, because I doubt a game at the very end of the generation could be that important in the design of future games.

I'll reserve my final judgement for when the game is actually released. What we've seen so far...looks absolutely amazing (GOTY contender!), but not quite like it'd be able to "change the entire industry". It seems to take the best out of several genres (3rd person shooters, adventures ->deep story, etc.), but I doubt many games after it will attempt this, since this is a HUGE, once-per-generation project.

but we do have enough information about the game. its really about whether ND can deliver or not, and if they do, would it have the effect they want?

and if anybody does say UC2 didnt change the indusrty then they dont know what they are talking about

I hope not. I prefer games over interactive movies no longer then 7/8 hours.

I don't know really. I wonder how much The Last of Us will change the 3rd person shooter and survival horror formula.

Okay since you believe uc2 changed the industry, name some games that it influenced?

Personally, no matter how much I'm looking forward to any game, I would never go into it expecting it to be such a monumental success that it changes the industry. When you go in with huge expectations like that, you're more than likely headed for disappointment, no matter how good the game is.

I get hyped for certain games same and anyone, and I'm definitely excited for the Last of Us, but it's always better to go in with realistic expectations. Chances are it'll be a fantastic game, anything more or less can be debated once everybody's got their hands on it. Don't ruin it for yourself by putting the weight of world on it's shoulders.
