In the case of DS software it's because a lot of the older software just wasn't tracked. If you look back to 2004/5 there were relatively few games being tracked, especially in Europe. PS2 software is undertracked by about 300 million for a similar reason. Unless companies release shipment data for the individual games, it's difficult to know where those software numbers actually go.

yeah I don't see how Kinect can wow people again. I guess holograms would do it but how accurate can illumiroom be? Hopefully very but I'm thinking people have had their fill of waving around and can already use 360 to talk to netflix, so no reason to spend a lot for a new console to do the same thing.
