Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can Disney save the EA-Nintendo relationship?

EA's engines were already tailored for the PS360 and moving the games and engine(s) to PS4/720 is a non-issue since they are basic x86 setups. So (1) version of the engine supports PS360 while the other version supports PS4/720/PC.

WiiU on the other hand is custom hardware, so they do not see the worth for investing time and money into developing a new version of their engines for just (1) console.

That is the reality of the situation. It is not their jobs to make sure it runs on WiiU. It is their job to make money and judging by WiiU sales, the money won't be made there.

People hate to hear this, but it's the truth. Want those games? Buy a different console.

DICE's Johan Andersson confirmed that the company had tested Frostbite 2 on the Wii U, and wasn't impressed with the results — which means that Frostbite 3 hasn't even been ported to Wii U. The EAmpire Strikes Back.

This, as most of you probably know, is pure BS. If it doesn't work right away, make it work. Don't just whine about it. Making it work is your job. Since Frostbite 3 will be hitting PS3 and X360, hardware can't be the limiting factor on Wii U. The real problems here are ideological stubbornness, bigotry and ugly malevolence. EA has come pretty low when most of use sure believed they couldn't sink any lower.

But is there A New Hope? What if Disney forces EA to put their games on all platforms in order to maintain a relationship with all companies. If Disney forces EA to  also make their Star Wars games on Wii U, then EA will have to fit Frostbite 3 on the Wii U. This means that if Wii U sales increase and the console already has Frostbite 3 because of Disney, then we might see other EA games on the console.

Is this a possibility? What do you guys think?

...or, it's just not worth their time and resources to develop games for a userbase of 3 million.

As for your topic, why would Disney force EA to develop games for the Wii U? What do you mean by "to maintain a relationship with all companies"?

a userbase of 3 million and potential market

its like saying why invest on ps4 and the next box since their current userbase is zero...

You're right, 3 million is a potential market. But EA doesn't have unlimited resources (and in fact, they just cut 10% of their workforce), so it would make more sense for them to focus their efforts on the market of 140 million users (PS3+360).

3 million AND potential market...

im sorr but you think wii u will sell 3 million in its lifetime? or you just missed how "AND" and "IS A" are two different things????

Disney being  a smart company wouldn't want to burn a relationship with nintendo over EA. Since Disney is a big and powerful company they can dictate that EA makes their games for nintendo systems or Disney will have other devs and pubs do the work. Depending on their contract this may or may not be the case. I think Disney and Nintendo can go hand in hand together.

To be honest I don't think EA will be the last. If the next CoD game on the Wii U doesn't sell solid numbers (provided it's even coming out on Wii U), Activision will bail out as well outside of Skylanders.

The numbers these Wii U third party games are selling through is atrocious, there needs to be a huge pick up in the fall in the sales of those games (not just Nintendo's own games) otherwise publishers will move on.

The attach rate for COD on Wii U was actually the same as on 360 if you remove the massive first week sales.  The Wii U version launched late and most COD buyers will not wait.  But from the time the Wii U launched going forward, the attach rate was actually better on Wii U than other systems.  Same for AC3...actually AC3's attach rate was MUCH better on Wii U.

Wii U buyers are buying 3rd party games at a solid rate.  There just aren't enough of them.  Nintendo needs to push systems ASAP.  Having the system available on launch day of new games is also very important.  If COD: Ghosts sells 3-4X what Blops2 did, I think Activision would be happy with the trend.  Nintendo just needs a user base pushing 10 million so that a 5-10% attach rate actually means a lot of sales, as it does on PS360.

I never said it was going to sell 3 million lifetime. It's 3 million right now, and showing slow growth. We will probably see a user base of 5 million by the end of the year. That's still a small market compared to the 140M users in the 360+PS3 market.

We've run over this one before. It's not about wanting the games, it's about wanting EA to man up and stop being a bunch of babies.

Sorry, but this "man up" argument is ridiculous. I'm not even going down that route again.

You act like they are obligated to make games for your console of choice. If they don't see the opportunity to make big returns, then they are not obligated to work and work in order to create that market on Nintendo consoles. Why do that when they can continue as is without the need to create new versions of their current engines?

I hope there is more than just "manning up" or obligations and "principle".

What is even more astonishing is that from your tone it seems like you won't even buy their games, yet you think they should make them for you?

well its not just userbase sometimes.... it is also opening new market.

if userbase is the only basis they should also port it to iphone and android. which probably exceeds 140M users.

it is true that they will most likely focus on the ps360, but there is still a chance that they will be doing it for the wii u esp if the numbers starts expanding (most likely japanese market)

Funny how the userbase-argument only applies to Nintendo-consoles. There is going to be a deluge of 3rd party-games PS4 and XBOX Whatever. So many games already confirmed, The Evil Within, Witcher 2, Battefield 4, Cyberpunk 2077, Thief.
