Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Goodbye DS, you were close. DS production stops

Nintendo probably could have held onto the DS long enough for it to overtake the PS2 relatively easily.

A $79.99 DSi would've done the trick for a couple of years.

But I think they are burying the system to make sure the 3DS gets every possible sale, so holding some arbitrary record doesn't seem to interest Nintendo much.

Around the Network

It was a huge success for Nintendo and probably no other handheld will ever overtake it in sales.

LOL at PS fanboys thinking the PS2 is still selling at 5 millions per year?

It sell so little that it isn't even tracked anymore. There were official news last year when DS took over PS2. Adios sony fanboys, DS won.

What the fuck is this. Who are you calling ps fanboys? No one claimed PS2 is selling 5m per year. Its closer to 160m than it is to 155m. The official news you mention was a vgchartz frontpage editor who has deleted his article for misinformation. He didn't take into account that VGC tracked DS but it stopped tracking PS2 a long time ago.

I don't think 3DS + Vita combined will even come close.

The PS2 doesn't need to sell 5 million a year to stay above the DS.  The news last year was incorrect.  The PS2 was still ahead, and apparently will remain ahead forever.  Last time we got specific PS2 data (fiscal year ending March 2012) it did 4.1 million compared to the DS' 5.1 million.  In that year, the PS2 had dropped 36% and the DS 71%.  This past year the DS dropped another 54% to 2.35 million.  Unfortunately we no longer get specific PS2 numbers from Sony, but it doesn't matter because the DS never reached the known PS2 figure from a year ago.

You don't get numbers anymore because the PS2 isn't selling anything anymore. Nobody tracks it because the numbers are so little.

Even Sony doesn't care anymore because it sells so little.

We do get numbers, just not PS2 specific numbers.  There are estimates based on PS3 sell through and YoY performance, but those are just estimates.  It doesn't matter though because the DS hasn't reached the PS2 figure from a year ago.

Also the PS2 was actually tracked by Media Create for a time after DS tracking had ceased.

And this thread goes the intended route: PS2 still sales-king *sigh*

the real question is

did it outsell the ps2?

Sometime last year it did.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
