I know it's bad for you, but why try to ban it? It's their own choice if they want to risk their health

If you can be tried as an adult then you deserve to be treated as an adult. Their choice to make.

In Germany you also can't legally buy them until you are 18 - just like hard alcohol. They seem to have done the same in NYC? I honestly don't see the problem. I mean, smoking is as dangerous as alcohol (I'd say it is even more dangerous), so why would you be allowed to smoke before you drink? Non-issue for me.

I don't think I'll ever understand this mentality. Freedom at the cost of everything else. The freedom to exploit and the freedom to die...not that I / us have any right to talk abot freedom - being from Germany

Corporate tobacco cigarettes is worse then smoking heroine, and heroine is worse then drinking alcohol.

I'm surprise no one push the age to 21 earlier when you have to be 21 to drink alcohol since George W. Bush push that law down all 50 states throats.

hey I'm a smoker. I started to smoke and drink alcohol at the age of 18 years and neither I nor anyone around me have no problems with it. Just do it in a way that is not intrusive, not disturbing others. I never smoke around children, the elderly or strangers. In New York City this may be the problem, but it's not my business. Prohibiting smoking other people, under the guise of concern for their health is nothing but stupidity, who want to smoke will smoke no matter how or where. 

Not being able to drink and smoke once you're married sounds like a total nonsense.

BTW cigarettes 18+ in Belgium, and it doesn't prevent 14 years old to smoke. Prohibiting generates the hype for teenagers

All this will lead to is an needless increase in crime for no good reason.

If you wan't to ban it in certain public place's fine that's fair since it effect's other people significantly. But if someone who is an adult in the eye's of the law want's to smoke I say their fucking choice. Is freedom to do what we want when not directly harming others meaningless to people nowadays?

I am neither a smoker or under 21 so this would in no way effect me.

If they want to why not let them? You could argue for banning all unhealthy food for people under 21 as well. Not to mention force people to do mandatory exercise since it may be good for their health.
