Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would you be just as big a Nintendo fan if they went "software" only?

Nintendo was actually over a 100 years old before they ventured into video games.

My bad. I guess that is why we are not friends anymore. I do not have my Nintendo facts down to a scientist. Still, the point is they can live without hardware and will adapt if need be.

If it makes you feel better, I had to look up the dates on wikipedia. Perhaps one day we can be efriends again.

It would make me a Nintendo fan again for the first time in over a decade.

When I read this thread post it made me feel like the poster was baiting Nintendo fans. I admit there have been some problems with Nintendo's hardware, but I think too many people are badgering on about this subject. I'm confident they'll be proven wrong, like so many things people say about the company which turn out to be false phrophecies.

That's really interesting. How come?

Because all of their zany decisions HappyD. The Wii turned a lot of gamers off of Nintendo I think. That casual friendsly, Motion control thing pushed gamers away. Even thought it was very popular.

Gamers weren't there to begin with if you hadn't remember the N64 and Gamecube sales.

It was always about the software with Nintendo, so as long as quality remains the same for the most part, then this would be great thing, atleast for me as I'd only have to buy one console to get my Sony, Nintendo, and 3rd Party fix.

I loved Nintendo up until the Gamecube i guess. Before that they were in their own league creating great new franchises, characters and some of the best 3D games of all times. Just completely focused on the software, almost like they didn't even care if they would make money on it or not. Probably because they where so succesfull doing things they way they did, it caused the creativity to roam free. Because of the succes of the first Playstation they got distracted and changed there gameplan, trying to compete to much instead of doing their own thing and they ended up with the Gamecube. Mostly milking out old franchises in the process. Then after Gamecube they decided they couldn't compete on the ''hardcore'' market and shifted to the casuals.

What i'm saying is their worries of trying to make the hardware sell changed them for the worse in my opinion. Maybe if they would depart from making hardware they could lay those worries aside and completely focus on the software again, letting the creativity roam free once again.

The only thing I care about from Nintendo is Pokemon. I could sacrifice everything else in gaming for Pokemon if required. I personally couldn't care less about what happens to anything else from Nintendo as long as I get Pokemon on some hardware, be it Nintendo's or Sony's or anyone else's (preferably not Apple's though because that is the only one platform holder I despise).

Let's face it. The world is changing and businesses have to adapt. Nintendo was around for nearly 80 years before Videogames and before they became a hardware company. To last another 80 years they will need to adapt even more as time goes by.

Will you still be just as big a Nintendo fan, salivating over Nintendo games as they are anounced, or will you become a Sega fan and basically forget the past and forget your favorite company?

I would assume that the games would be pouring out of Nintendo if this did happen becaue they would have no stress on their plate. No more hardware to worry about. That seems to take up most of their time and resources. I know that they have different divisions so that hardware does not really effect software like that. But I am sure there is still some connections. The money is all the same.

Quality may go down? Would it be hard to stay loyal if the quality went down like it has with Sega?

The flaw in the logic is that the hardware engineers at Nintendo have no experience developing software.  They make hardware, not games.  So, the "stress" on their plate wouldn't be affected either way.  Nintendo wouldn't gain any software development personnel by ceasing hardware development.  It would be just as easy or just as much work to hire new programmers out of technical school and place them in the software teams.

Also, half of Nintendo's business comes from hardware sales, so Nintendo would lose half of it's business by only making software.  Not exactly a good way to please shareholders and increase company wealth if you gut half of your business just because certain people don't really understand the competitive advantage of making your own hardware that exclusively runs your own software.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Do you mean all Hardware, or just the consoles?
