Let's face it. The world is changing and businesses have to adapt. Nintendo was around for nearly 80 years before Videogames and before they became a hardware company. To last another 80 years they will need to adapt even more as time goes by.

Will you still be just as big a Nintendo fan, salivating over Nintendo games as they are anounced, or will you become a Sega fan and basically forget the past and forget your favorite company?

I would assume that the games would be pouring out of Nintendo if this did happen becaue they would have no stress on their plate. No more hardware to worry about. That seems to take up most of their time and resources. I know that they have different divisions so that hardware does not really effect software like that. But I am sure there is still some connections. The money is all the same.

Quality may go down? Would it be hard to stay loyal if the quality went down like it has with Sega?

The flaw in the logic is that the hardware engineers at Nintendo have no experience developing software.  They make hardware, not games.  So, the "stress" on their plate wouldn't be affected either way.  Nintendo wouldn't gain any software development personnel by ceasing hardware development.  It would be just as easy or just as much work to hire new programmers out of technical school and place them in the software teams.

Also, half of Nintendo's business comes from hardware sales, so Nintendo would lose half of it's business by only making software.  Not exactly a good way to please shareholders and increase company wealth if you gut half of your business just because certain people don't really understand the competitive advantage of making your own hardware that exclusively runs your own software.
