Yeah yeah ok. CoD is everyone's game of choice. It's just so popular they makes calendars clocks birthday cards mugs t shirts Easter eggs houses helicopters and moons with CoD on. CoD is also exclusive to one system and sells regularly above 10 million, and has sold over 20, even 25 million copies. One iteration of CoD still sells 5/6 years after release and is consistently in the top
30. If you asked the general public who is the fave of gaming they'd say an army dude off a CoD game.

I'm not downplaying it's success but please? Mario is the face of gaming the face of the industry and has a gotten into the psyche of the general public. He's as big as Mickey Mouse, as famous as Michael Jackson, almost everyone could probably hum one of the classic Mario tunes. He's bigger, he's better, and he'll outlive this phase of CoD just like he's left every other fad behind.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I was just too scared to post it... 'tis scary around these parts... ya know with all the CoD fans here.

Thanks! I'm just sticking up for us Nintendo fans. I mean don't get me wrong when things go well for other systems I'm all for it and of course think its worth celebrating/mentioning. But anyone disputing who is THE face of gaming just for a success to seem more triumphant than it is makes it annoying. Everyone on here who isn't a Nintendo fan likes to bash Nintenso, downplay its successes or make outlandish claims. History is not a few good years of sales of a multi platform franchise.

Since when are we talking about "THE face of gaming"?

We're talking about which franchise is currently the most popular and that's Call of Duty. And we're using revenues to come to a conclusion because that's probably the most objective way of comparing something's success. Mario is big but not Call of Duty big. Call of Duty's popularity may or may not fade with time (depending on how the franchise is handled in the future) but it undeniably influenced a whole generation that will in many case remember it more than Mario. Let the future tell the truth.

And considering that the CoD series is on Nintendo consoles too I don't see why praising its success is going against Nintendo...

I don't even know why Nintendo was brought in a PS3 sales discussion anyway.

Nintendo was brought up because once again a fan of a certain company decided to say that not only was COD the biggest on their chosen platform but also bigger than Mario in gaming. It wasn't a Nintendo fan who first brought up Nintendo. I honestly think it's wonderful that games are getting such high sales but for god's sake - why bash Nintendo to make a point seem more impressive? It actually has the opposite effect. I really enjoy how Nintendo can stand on its own two feet with head held high and be proud of what it has achieved without having to downplay any other companies successes.

And to say Mario isn't CoD big? I don't even know what to say. Revenue etc fine CoD has that. But in terms of sales and popularity? Just no. I'm not arguing with anyway because there's nothing to argue about. So let's each live in our respective fantasies.

Also why are we ignoring the Mario phenomenon and the fact that it is only released on ONE platform? CoD is multi plat, no? So you're gonna tell me that if it was JUST on PS or Xbox that it would sell the same numbers?

And PLEASE stop calling Mario a "past glory". The fact that new games AND four or five year old games are still selling well and still in the upper reaches in the charts tells me that Mario is very much a force to be reckoned with today.

Again I'm sorry to bring up Nintendo in a PS discussion but when certain people have to make outlandish statements (ie. CoD is the biggest gaming franchise in history - and yes, someone did say that, it's here in this very thread for you to read) I feel I have to speak out. CoD is undoubtedly doing phenomenally well but to say then that it's the biggest gaming franchise in history is BS of the highest order.

Also, why do I come in here if I'm a Nintendo fan (before anybody asks? Because I'm also a PS3 owner, a fan of the console and am pleased that it is having such huge success.

But let's see here. You neglect the fact that while Skyward Sword sold less than Fable 3, Fable 3 was released around the height of 360 popularity and SS was released on a pretty much dead console

Oh wow. Wii was dead - because Nintendo would not release any game for it. And they released fricking ZELDA! Run to the store and buy it!

Install base on the Wii also much bigger.

and OoT3D was released on 3DS a couple months back.

Totally diffrent game on different console. No any similarities with NSMBU. Also it is - BEST GAME OF ALL TIME for Christ sake. Run to the store and buy it!

Sword is also something I'd call one of the Zelda "black sheeps". Some people liked it, some people hated it. Motion controls weren't accepted by everyone. Reminds me of something....Fable:The Journey? And that sold a lot worse.

It is main zelda game in 5 years. Like it or not, if you are Zelda fan - you will buy it. And Fable Journey example - massive fail. To buy it you must have Kinect and only 20m users buy it - mainly casual. So yeah - massive fail.

Otakumegane said:

I actually don't know what Fable is.

Fable:The Journey? And that sold a lot worse. I'd say that even killed the franchise for some.

You are say you know nothing abou Fable, do you?

Otakumegane said:

if you want to assess the value of the Zelda IP in terms of Sales you should be looking at Twilight Princess. It's the traditional "Zelda" game. Much like you're using Fable 3 instead of Fable:The Journey.

Z:TW was lunch title with gimmicky motion controls - yet not even 10m sales.

Otakumegane said:

In fact, I'm willing to bet that the next mainline Zelda title will outsell the next main Fable title.

Z:WW HD - 2m in 2 years max.

New Zelda - 4m in 2 years max.

Right. So are you taking the bet or not?

Let time tell the tale eh?

Besides going by your logic, you support your franchise no matter how bad or expensive the game of a series is. Then explain to me Fable kinect sales. Like it or not, that's the limit of the franchise's power. Even the Fable name couldn't sell that Journey game. Go look at the sales for Link's Crossbow training. Terrible game, sold by the Zelda name.

Wasn't this thread about PS3 10m sellers? Hmmm... time to move on.

Different game. Not the same genre (Rail Shooter != RPG) nor on the same platform (Kinect != Xbox 360). Fable audience - hardcore gamers, were not interested in it. And it is foolish to think somebody thought of this game as major installment.

Bundled game with Zapper attachment. Go figure so high sales.

Still don't see you taking that bet.

Actions speak louder than words. Come on man. I can wait to see how this turns out.

Ok, i think new Zelda will sale similar or lower numbers to the new major Fable game (not Kinect exclusive or something).

Approx 3-4m in 2 years.

trollmaster85 said:

You said that one of the reasons Fable Journey didn't sell too well was because of people also had to get the Kinect, and that's true - but it's also true in the case of SS as well; you had to get motion+ to play that game. So both games needed attachments.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

We got the terms. Mine's next mainline Zelda title sells more than Fable mainline. (If we're ever even getting one)

Conditions? 1 month avatar and sig control?
