Forums - Sales Discussion - ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ sales reach six million copies

Examiner

4J Studios revealed today that “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” has now sold over six million copies, via Xbox Live Arcade, since the game’s release last May. This makes the Xbox 360 version of “Minecraft” a huge success for an XBLA title. The graphically simple, yet gameplay complex sandbox game has steadily remained on the top played games list for Xbox 360.

In addition to just releasing the game, “Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition” has received numerous title updates as well as four distinct skin packs which allow users to change their avatars in the game. At the end of April, more gamers will be able to play “Minecraft” on Xbox 360 due to the fact that the game is receiving a retail disc release next month. This will allow those without an internet connection required to download the game currently via Xbox Live to be able to pick up the popular title.

Nice. I'm still waiting on tu9. I have this on pc, but enjoy it on xbox more.

Outstanding really. Sold more than hundreds of retail games.

Currently would be number 16 on the 360s best selling games, which is more than Gears of War and Gears 3... Only 150k behind Halo ODST in 15th place.

Wow impressive numbers!

It's doing better than a lot of retail games.... Apart from Halo 4 and CoD I can't remember a game selling that much within the last year or so, especially on a single console!

Impressive, so impressive!!! Congrats to 360 and XBLA.

Is it considered indie or not?

Ex Graphics Whore.

cool thanks.

About time they released new official numbers.
It should get a huge boost due to the retail release (hopefully)

Why wouldn't it be? The game was created by one guy, and now there's an independent indie-sized team developing the game. Not sure about the developers of the X360 version, but it's heavily based on the PC version, so...
