Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Tomb Raider vs Uncharted argument has begun.

Honestly the new Tomb Raider is better than every single uncharted game, you feel like you are discovering stuff, and you feel like you aren't being hand holded by stupid linear level design that is just covering and shooting and repeat and repeat.

Whoever says its Uncharted with tits obviously haven't played it.

I go as far as to say the optional tombs in the new uncharted are more fun to do than uncharted whole laughable "Puzzles"  , anan d they reward you, you feel you actually discovered something, unlike feeling you are watching a movie solve itself, and just shoot everyone.

Lets face it both games hold your hand through the storyline and Tomb Raider isnt completely open world. You're also dealing with two people with two different educational backgrounds, Lara is an archeologist, therefore her role is to search tombs. Nathan Drake is a historian, thief and treasure hunter for hire, he doesnt just steal anything he steals only what will make him money. He's not rich like Lara Croft and can afford to loot whole tombs. He finds what he needs to make money and leaves.

The only major differences between this game and uncharted are the open world things such as hunting and raiding tombs but again the system doesnt go to making anything so hunting is useless. The bows and arrows add a unique element to the game but really? Taking down houses? Shes not superwoman. She moves more like drake than Lara Croft. Lara Croft as known through gaming history moves like a cat with almost gymnast like ability. Its became of the influence of games like Uncharted why they toned down her character to make her more realistic and tried to make her as relatable as possible.

God I wanna play this now just to compare. Looking at this thread it's basically

Sony fans: Uncharted is better.
Non Sony fans: Tomb Raider is better.

Tomb Raider has abandoned everything about itself. Ignore the people who say the new game still has tombs and puzzles, they are a insult to Tomb Raider. The puzzles barely exist, they are tiny puzzles with simple answers that get solved in 10 seconds. Compare to real TR games that had huge puzzles taking up an entire level, with puzzles within puzzles.

It is an Uncharted clone through and through, the 'open world' is really just a wide linear path that you can backtrack to and serves as nothing but something to stuff a million collectables into.

The climbing is Uncharted style, meaning no skill involved any longer.

Uncharted still looks better and plays better, Uncharted action scenes are better and keep the player playing always, most of TRs end up removing control from player and turn into a semi-cutscenes.  Uncharted writing is much better also, by miles.

TR is a great game by itself, but it isn't remotely like anything a Tomb Raider game should be, is just a shameless copy of Uncharted.

Oh, and the TR MP is pretty terrible.

I thought the exact same thhing.

Tomb Raider is more like Assassin's Creed than Uncharted!

I can agree that the game feels like Uncharted 3 with a soft bit of Assassins Creed 3 for the hunting and Stuff. I think Uncharted for what it is and Far cry 3 were better overall packages than Tomb Raider as well.

Don't we want games to keep setting higher bars in their genres? Uncharted took Tomb Raider and mashed it up with Indiana Jones. Tomb Raider came back, and I do hope it raised the bar on Uncharted. If there's an Uncharted 4 (hopefully on PS4) then just looking prettier but being largely the same as Uncharted 2/3 won't be enough.

Tomb Raider has hopefully challenged Uncharted for best in genre and hopefully someone will up the ante some more. Maybe ND has decided to leave Uncharted behind, but I feel like they might want to milk the franchise just one more time.

Naughty Dog will not drop the golden goose known as Uncharted, they will continue to mold it into something great and truly try to flesh out the multiplayer. Sony expanded Naughty Dog into two teams with one working on Uncharted and the other working on The Last of Us. Tomb Raider took everything down to the multiplayer and added little things ontop of it. To me it felt more like Uncharted with a chick than Tomb Raider. Lara Croft are two totally different people and thats about the only difference I felt. I might just use my roommates PC because hes done with the game. I've been watching while he plays it.

Pretty much everything in Tomb Raider is better except maybe the graphics. The controls are tighter and more responsive, the platforming is better, etc.

Uncharted's problem is that it isn't really that great at anything except graphics and presentation. But if you don't like what's being served, the game itself is pretty average at best.

It's a mediocre shooter, people who play real shooters know this. The platforming is pretty limited compared to a real platformer. And it really isn't a good action-adventure because it is way too linear and too scripted to offer any real excitement. It's like watching a weak Indiana Jones reboot or something ghetto like that.

Many people are tired of the Uncharted circle jerk, it really isn't that great unless you ignored everything but Sony exclusives. Tomb Raider is just a better game, but Uncharted is a somewhat decent movie.

Some people might like that cast of Uncharted but I didn't care for any of them. Too generic and uninspired. Lara Croft is an icon, Drake is just some guy.

Drake is just some guy? The character has more dimensions than lara has in her whole body. The real lara takes is a rich school girl who would rather stay a broad than at home and take what she wants from people. Drake is a comedic character with a background of being a street urchin, therefore hes a good thief as well as a great historian and treasure hunter for hire. He doesn't stick around when he sacks a tomb, he finds what he wants and leaves. Uncharted uses the narrative which hits you harder than makes it closer to home as to how he finds certain objects. This is why Crystal Dynamics took that and made the Tomb Raider game more linear. Tomb Raider hasn't been relevant in nearly fourteen, maybe fifteen years and comes back just happening to look like Uncharted and you're just immediately going to write off Uncharted? Her relationship with the other friends of hers is nowhere near as interesting as nathan drake either. If nathan drakes friends died I would actually care, Tomb Raider, nope. Its all about Lara and no one should forget that. She doesn't move like Lara, she moves like drake, she shoots like drake. The real lara runs in like an elegant rambo and cleans house, in this game shes just plain old rambo. It doesn't stop the game from being great, I just dont see where shes like the old lara.

If they want my money that's precisely the wrong area to place too much focus. I say take the game to the open world. Slightly upgraded graphics from UC3, but the lion's share of PS4 power used to make Uncharted 4 a quasi-open world game. Not too open world because then you lose the tight cinematic story experience, I'd like something exploratory for an open world rather than side missions.

Drake is a thief and fortune/ treasure hunter for hire, he doesn't have the time to sack multiple tombs or chase animals for nothing. He finds the ones hired to find sacks it and leaves. Lara is rich and sacks tombs because she can theres a difference. I dont see the need for drake to go sacking every tomb he sees, he can't afford it. Can't wait to see lara fight dinosaurs again.

You've had 4 games to care about Uncharted's characters. The people in the Tomb Raider reboot, not so much. And since in those 4 Uncharted games there was much more emphasis put on the narrative than the gameplay, I'd hope you'd care more than someone from a Tomb Raider game you are yet to even actually play through.

HA this is exactly how the online world has reacted. Idk if I would say its been as extreme as one being better than the other, but it's become blatantly clear that Uncharted fanboys want to make it known that Tomb Raider is nothing more than an Uncharted knock off. It's a shame, because they are missing an incredible game that is really nothing much like Uncharted at all.
