I don't see it getting 50% anytime this year. Beating 3 consoles will be tough and the Wii U is only going to get better software and grow.
When will the PS3 exceed 50% weekly market share?
Next week | 4 | 6.56% | |
Some time in February | 9 | 14.75%
By June | 16 | 26.23% | |
By the end of 2013 | 8 | 13.11%
Never | 24 | 39.34% | |
Total: | 61 |

I count WiiU as 8th gen so it already is about there for me. It may gain it by your definition GoW week and LoU week and of course if there's a price drop anytime soon (I don't predict one until E3 when PS4 price is shown so they can sell as many as possible with their big software at the pre-pricedrop price).
Not going to happen, apart from the week of a huge game eg FFXIII vs or GTA5 or the last of us or a pricecut. But the week after it will be back under 50%

It already is, isn't it? It will likely stay there (if we discount Wii U, for that's not 7th generation).

I'm well aware (and a good thread, I hope you keep it up!), but I'd say it won't be losing that marketshare sans-Wii U for a fair while yet.
@OP: Maybe. It's the golden rule of gens after 6th, everything's possible, nothing is granted and, above all, nothing is granted forever.
I'm not sure why you'd count the Wii U in the first place. It's a different generation console. May as well count the PS2 or 3DS in that case.
