Forums - Gaming Discussion - Hiroyuki Ito (Director: FF6, FF9, FF12) has not worked on a single Square Enix game this entire gen!

*hands over box of tissues*

Don't worry, you can still play FFXIII/2/Lightning Returns in the mean time.

I wonder what they've had him working on. He must have been working on a lot of unreleased stuff (not necessarily FFXV). I suspect he's had his hand in Versus at some point although I hope he is Directing FFXV.

He has obviously been wroking on FFXV but every HD project is sort of on-hold until FFXIVARR releases. I wonder if they will be releases for current gen anyways or if they will ported for next gen systems...

You always make interesting FF threads lol.

Really SE needs to get the people that worked on FFVIII,FFX, and FFXII to work on the next 2 or 3 FF.

@bold: They were the team that made FFXIII

Not exactly as Nomura has not made a major appearance yet. Also interesting to note is that both Ito and Kitase worked on FF6.

Hiroyuki Ito is too busy designing, producing and directing Final Fantasy XV. The scale and ambition of the game is so great that he can't work hands-on with any other game.

Unless he's been working on it basically all by himself, I doubt there's any merit to such a rumor.  FFXV would undoubtedly be developed by the 1st Production Team, and they've been busy with the FFXIII suite of games the last few years.  He could be doing some preliminary planning for the game (if he is the director), but I doubt any actual heavy coding has begun.

Why do you think FFXV will be "undoubtedly" be made by the 1st Production Department? After all, they never made FFXII and are not making FFXIV ARR. Basically, they have not made every FF game ever released, so there's a chance they will not make FFXV.

Also, FFXV had definitely started development. FFXIII started development in 2004. FFXIV started development in 2005. Notice how long ago these dates are? FFXV has therefore definitely started development by now. It probably started development in 2007 or 2008.

FF XII is my favorite FF game, followed by FF IX. And VI is the best Nintendo FF game. I like the way you think. :)

We can only hope that Hiroyuki Ito has been making FFXV these past few years

Nomura did the character designs for Final Fantasy XIII the same way he did character designs for FFVIII and FF X.  Only game he had input on the story was FF VII.

Not that it matters much, but he was also battle director of FF8 and for FFXIII he was only the main character designer. Idk I really liked Kingdom Hearts so I think with him in full working mode it the games would be nice. I know I originally said FFVIII and FFX.

Personally, I feel that the sales of Versus (when and if it comes) on the PS3 will be a very good indicator for Square to see what direction the series should take.

No, the people behind the stellar FF VIII and the incandescent FF X were the brilliant team that made FF XIII.

I think Square Enix were planning to announce FF15 two years if not last year, but they've learned from FF13 and FF12 that it would be better to switch the game to PS4 and Xbox 720.

So the game is still in development, but it will be developed as a launch title for those consoles.

I believe Yochi Wada is planning to relaunch the Final Fantasy brand in a new style. That style will be the fantasy setting of previous games coupled with the FF12 style of RPGs, which is similar to games like Xenoblade and Skyrim.

In short, I think the game is coming, but they know to successfully relaunch the Final Fantasy brand they will need to do that on a new generation of consoles. I have faith that Hiroshi Minagawa, Hiroyuki Ito and Production Division 4 will return the series to greatness!

I can understand your opinion that they would move it to PS4/720, but you have to remember that SQEX still plan to support this gen for a good few years. Here's some examples for proof:

1) We know FF Versus XIII will be released on PS3 sometime in 2014 or 2015.
2) We also know FFX HD will be released on PS3 sometime in 2014 or 2015. There will obviously be a FFX-2 HD to follow in 2016 or 2017.
3) We know that future expansions for FFXIV ARR will still be released on PS3, just like has been done with FFXI. This means we'll be getting FFXIV ARR expansions on PS3 as far into the future as 2020.
4) We also know that Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that KH3 will be made for current gen machines after he finishes FF Versus XIII. Seeing as Versus XIII won't release on PS3 till 2014 or 2015, that means KH3 will not be released till 2016 or 2017. Think about that for a moment: A mainline KH game will not release on current gen hardware till 2016 or 2017.

What these points tell us is that SQEX will keep making games for current gen hardware even after PS4/720 get released. I also think that FFXV will release on PS3/360/WiiU after PS4/720 are released. SQEX had just better hope that PS4/720 are backwards compatible. Also, I agree that they need to make FFXV open world like Skyrim. Funny enough, Skyrim was Yoichi wada's most anticipated game of 2011. He was even tweeting about being hyped for the 11.11.11 release date. LOL!

I've noticed that there are a lot of FFXII staff members on the FFXIV ARR development. Even Hiroshi Minagawa, the co-director of FFXII, is working on that game. They must have all been moved over there to help develop FFXIV ARR. I'm sure they will move back to FFXV when the game gets released in Q2 2013.

With FF10 HD I think that game will also be a downloadable title, thus you can play it on PS4, Xbox 720, Wii U as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. So I don't think it matters when it comes out.

Honestly man, I think these consoles are done. The next generation of consoles is happening in 2013/2014. If we look at FF12, the sales were less than FF10s because Sqaure released the game so late for the PS2, when the Xbox 360 already came out. I don't see them releasing FF15 when the PS4. 720, Wii U are on the market. Thus i think they will use the next generation of consoles to relaunch the brand, and to leave the FF13 series as a memory on the last generation of consoles. Maybe a 2015 release for the 15th numbered installment of the series?

I know they said KH3 and FF13 Versus were coming to PS3; but they also said FF13 would be a Sony exclusive, and that game is now multiplatform. I can see FF 13 Versus coming out for the PS3 early 2014. But I can see that as the last FF game they will bring out for this generation of consoles.

That being said FF13 Versus has spent 6 maybe 7 years in development? Bearing in mind its a spin off, it coming very late in the console cycle, and its coming to a series (FF13) where less than half of the consumers bought the sequel (FF13-2), I'm sceptical on whether SE will risk launching a game that took them 7 years to develop in those circumstances. Personally I think the sales might be embarassing for them. Its possible they will release it as a launch title for the PS4/720.

E3 will tell us. We suspected FF15 would be announced last year with good evidence for that. But its possible Square delayed that announcement so they could annouce FF15 in conjunction with the PS4/720 reveal. That way they can relaunch the FF brand on a new era of consoles. Thats what I think FF15 will be. As for FF14, no idea whats going on with that. I don't think they've even released the PS3 version yet?
