You always make interesting FF threads lol.

Really SE needs to get the people that worked on FFVIII,FFX, and FFXII to work on the next 2 or 3 FF.

@bold: They were the team that made FFXIII

Not exactly as Nomura has not made a major appearance yet. Also interesting to note is that both Ito and Kitase worked on FF6.

Nomura did the character designs for Final Fantasy XIII the same way he did character designs for FFVIII and FF X.  Only game he had input on the story was FF VII.

Not that it matters much, but he was also battle director of FF8 and for FFXIII he was only the main character designer. Idk I really liked Kingdom Hearts so I think with him in full working mode it the games would be nice. I know I originally said FFVIII and FFX.

He wasn't the battle director for Final Fantasy VIII, Ito was....

He was Battle system designer... I know big difference lol. But this puts us back to my original statement. The people that worked on FFVIII FFX and FFXII should work on the next 2 or 3. Includes Ito,Nomura, impossible to have Sakaguchi..., Yatsumi Matsuon, etc.

they hate money

Like I said, production team 1 made Final Fantasy VIII and X and XIII, they're currently busy with Lightning dress up game and Versus to be working on the next FInal Fantasy.  Rumour has it Production Team 4 is working on this new title.  Ito is the current head of Production Team 4 since Matsuno left (Though he may have returned since he left Level 5 apparently).  Nomura is part of Production Team 1. I still don't see any info on Nomura being battle system designer, but I haven't played through the game in two years so I don't recall the credits.

So the guy who directed three of the best, most influential games in the series is quietly working on a way to save Final Fantasy from irrelevance?

I hope so. Final Fantasy needs a severe kick in the pants. At this point, the franchise is wallowing in its own excesses.

I can understand your opinion that they would move it to PS4/720, but you have to remember that SQEX still plan to support this gen for a good few years. Here's some examples for proof:

1) We know FF Versus XIII will be released on PS3 sometime in 2014 or 2015.
2) We also know FFX HD will be released on PS3 sometime in 2014 or 2015. There will obviously be a FFX-2 HD to follow in 2016 or 2017.
3) We know that future expansions for FFXIV ARR will still be released on PS3, just like has been done with FFXI. This means we'll be getting FFXIV ARR expansions on PS3 as far into the future as 2020.
4) We also know that Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that KH3 will be made for current gen machines after he finishes FF Versus XIII. Seeing as Versus XIII won't release on PS3 till 2014 or 2015, that means KH3 will not be released till 2016 or 2017. Think about that for a moment: A mainline KH game will not release on current gen hardware till 2016 or 2017.

What these points tell us is that SQEX will keep making games for current gen hardware even after PS4/720 get released. I also think that FFXV will release on PS3/360/WiiU after PS4/720 are released. SQEX had just better hope that PS4/720 are backwards compatible. Also, I agree that they need to make FFXV open world like Skyrim. Funny enough, Skyrim was Yoichi wada's most anticipated game of 2011. He was even tweeting about being hyped for the 11.11.11 release date. LOL!

He has obviously been wroking on FFXV but every HD project is sort of on-hold until FFXIVARR releases. I wonder if they will be releases for current gen anyways or if they will ported for next gen systems...

I've noticed that there are a lot of FFXII staff members on the FFXIV ARR development. Even Hiroshi Minagawa, the co-director of FFXII, is working on that game. They must have all been moved over there to help develop FFXIV ARR. I'm sure they will move back to FFXV when the game gets released in Q2 2013.

With FF10 HD I think that game will also be a downloadable title, thus you can play it on PS4, Xbox 720, Wii U as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. So I don't think it matters when it comes out.

Honestly man, I think these consoles are done. The next generation of consoles is happening in 2013/2014. If we look at FF12, the sales were less than FF10s because Sqaure released the game so late for the PS2, when the Xbox 360 already came out. I don't see them releasing FF15 when the PS4. 720, Wii U are on the market. Thus i think they will use the next generation of consoles to relaunch the brand, and to leave the FF13 series as a memory on the last generation of consoles. Maybe a 2015 release for the 15th numbered installment of the series?

I know they said KH3 and FF13 Versus were coming to PS3; but they also said FF13 would be a Sony exclusive, and that game is now multiplatform. I can see FF 13 Versus coming out for the PS3 early 2014. But I can see that as the last FF game they will bring out for this generation of consoles.

That being said FF13 Versus has spent 6 maybe 7 years in development? Bearing in mind its a spin off, it coming very late in the console cycle, and its coming to a series (FF13) where less than half of the consumers bought the sequel (FF13-2), I'm sceptical on whether SE will risk launching a game that took them 7 years to develop in those circumstances. Personally I think the sales might be embarassing for them. Its possible they will release it as a launch title for the PS4/720.

E3 will tell us. We suspected FF15 would be announced last year with good evidence for that. But its possible Square delayed that announcement so they could annouce FF15 in conjunction with the PS4/720 reveal. That way they can relaunch the FF brand on a new era of consoles. Thats what I think FF15 will be. As for FF14, no idea whats going on with that. I don't think they've even released the PS3 version yet?

You make good points.

However, do you no longer believe KH3 will release on PS3? I doubt SQEX will make it skip an entire console generation. Especially seeing as Tetsuya Nomura is bringing KH HD 1.5 Remix and KH HD 2.5 Remix to the PS3 in 2013 and 2015, respectively. Therefore, if KH3 and the KH HD Remix games are still coming to PS3, there is every chance that so will FF Versus XIII. The only thing that might change is that they change the name to FF Versus (or FFXV if that game is not yet in development) and make it multiplatform (PS3/360/WiiU).

E3 2013 will have to answer a lot of mysteries about Square Enix. FF Versus XIII really needs to be at the show this year in both trailer and playable form. We also need this years E3 to tell us if the game is still for current gen and if it's still PS3 exclusive. SQEX have already confirmed that we'll see the Agni's Philosophy tech demo running on actual hardware.

As for FFXV, I'm still o the opinion that if Hiroyuki Ito is already making it, then it will release on current gen. I'm sure that Nintendo will be funding a port for the WiiU as it has the same horsepower as PS3/360. Lastly, FFXIV ARR will release in June/July 2013 for both PC and PS3. I'm certain future expansions for the game will also release on PS3 meaning SQEX will still be supporting the console long into the future.

Nomura wasn't "Battle System Designer" of FFVIII, that was indeed Ito. Nomura was "Character Designer & Battle Visual Director" of FFVII and FFVIII. He basically directed how battles would look.

So Nomura was tha asshat that decided Eden's summon needed to be a minute and a half long... and make no sense!

Hiroyuki Ito is too busy designing, producing and directing Final Fantasy XV. The scale and ambition of the game is so great that he can't work hands-on with any other game.

Damn. All aboard the hype train now.

the back to the future hype train.

Galvaniser, I haven't quoted your posts because at the moment I can't quite edit or quote properly.

But as I'm sure we've all heard FF13V could be heading to PS4. I can understand that because FF13-2 sold less than half of what FF13 sold. FF13-3 (Lighting Returns) will most likely sell less than that.

Sqaure Enix could probably release the game next year on PS3. I'm assuming after 7 years the game is finished or nearly finished. However I think Yochi Wada knows that releasing a game like FF13V at the end of the console cycle where less than half the fans returned for the sequel, then the game will not be entering favourable conditions.

I think its a good marketing move for Square Enix, but its bad for the fans who bought a PS3 who thought FF13V would be coming within the first few years. If they're smart they will release FF13V for the PS3 and they will release another version for the PS4. Because not everyone will buy a PS4 straight away.

Kingdom Hearts 3, I honestly have no idea if this game is even in development. From what I've heard its possible the reason they didn't get round to KH3 is because developers from FF13V had to be partitioned to the FF13 team. With that in mind I think FF15 is too late at this point. The next gen will start properly by late 2014.

I wouldn't want FF15 to come out next year anyway. FF12 came out too late in the PS2's life cycle. It had no chance of matching FF10s sales. They didn't give the game a good chance despite it being a renovation of the series. If they release FF15 like FF12, the game deserves the same chance FF13 got, the chance FF12 didn't get. Releasing it early in the next console generation will give FF15 a better chance than what FF12 got. Which is what I want for FF15.

I really doubt they ae moving Versus XIII to the PS4. They are still releasing FFXIV ARR on the PS3, after all. Also, the PS4 will be really expensive when it comes out and a with a small user base after launch. Who will buy Versus XIII when it releases? There's no way it will sell as much as if it was still released on PS3.

KH3 hasn't started development yet. It is being planned to start development on PS3 after Versus XIII releases. This therefore means that KH3 will start development on PS3 in 2014. This would be after PS4/720 are released worldwide.

Lastly, I agree that FF15 should be released early on PS4/720. It was unfair that FF12 was released so late on PS2. That really handicapped its sales potential. It should have also been ported to 360 like FFXI was. If they are already making FF15, then it's likely it is being made for current gen. The only way they'll move FF15 to PS4/720 is if they scrap everything and remake it from scratch using Luminous Studio.
