Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is the Wii a Failure among Nintendo fans?

I love my Wii, and the small library it has. Just with a small library, I don't play it much. However despite a small library, the Wii produces some of Nintendo's best games.

However the direction Nintendo is heading with the Wii is something which embarasses me. XenoBlade, Last Story, and Pandor'as Tower taking 2 years to localize in North America, and 2/3 games aren't even localized by Nintendo. Mario Party games becoming more and more generic, and less unique and fun, we even saw a Wii Party. Also an over-reliance on major franchise sequels. Gamecube had a Starfox Adventure game, Batallion Wars, Metroid Prime FPS, Animal Crossing, Eternal Darkness, completly new Zelda direction, and some really good 3rd party support with Resident Evil Remakes and Baten Kaitos. Wii just got sequels, good sequels, but sequels. The unique stuff almost never came.

It has some of the best first party Nintendo offerings you can find. There are some third party gems, but it pales when compared to the HD twins. Sooo.... no.

More like.....Have fans failed nintendo ? I think this question should replace your currrent topic . Reads better .

To me the Wii wasnt a failure, i enjoyed the heck out of it. Its just a shame that the last great year for the Wii in terms of a string of decent games was 2010. I enjoyed motion controls if done properly, and despaired when motion controls were tacked on and became pointless waggle.

Its first party line up was very strong, and if you are an educated gamer you would know that there are some decent niche 3rd party titles amidst the party games.Full backward compatabiltiy helped too (as i was missing my Gamecube)
In the end i had played up to 100 Wii titles, and sampled the best the Wii had to offer before finally getting a PS3 to sample some of the top games i had missed out on during my Wii time.
But now its WiiU all the way for me, and even though ive had it a short amount of time, it could be potentially become my favourite Nintendo console of all time. I love the hardware and when the top games come in all their HD glory...well bring it on.

It certainly didn't fail me.

After the disappointment of the Gamecube, the Wii was an awesome return to form for Nintendo.

It gave us masterpieces like Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Metroid Prime 3, Skyward Sword & Twilight Princess, Xenoblade Chronicles, and the definitive version of the best game I've ever played, Resident Evil 4.

It resurrected the all but dead 2D platforming genre with a vengeance, a genre the N64 and Gamecube sorely lacked in.

With the introduction of motion controls it not only revolutionized the way games are played, providing the most refreshingly new and exciting innovation in gameplay since 3D, but it expanded the gaming population into areas that traditionally shunned games and viewed them with scorn.

Thanks to the Wii, gaming is a much more diverse medium than it was 7 years ago, and on a personal level, I enjoyed it more than any other console I've ever owned except for the SNES.

I can't speak for anyone else. But for me, no, the Wii was not failure. I'm very happy with the Wii and its games.

A failure?

Jumping from 20 millions to 100 millions in one generation?

Making tons of great games, like Mario galaxy, Skyward Sword, Mario Kart, SSBB, DK Country, Xenoblade?

Selling 20 millions + games ?

That was the biggest success of Nintendo history behind the DS and the Gameboy.
