Forums - Nintendo Discussion - The 3DS is one of the main reasons WiiU isnt selling so good

Very valid points, I think 3DS is definitely a competitor and many Nintendo fans just bought one and its Marios or are about to. Wii U just isn't a strong enough value with cheaper alternatives offering both its multiplats and even Mario as you've pointed out. To truly take off it needs some gaming experiences you can't get elsewhere, a price cut, or both. These will come.

You have a point but the wii u will catch on. I have a lot have friends that wanted a 3ds for christmas and said they would get a wii u next year. some of my friends are waiting for a price drop.

i dont doubt the WiiU will have better sales in the future, but i think this is one of the reasons its not selling so well now. i dont think anybody mentioned this on the site before and wanted to discuss it.

exactly, and this is something nintendo doesnt seem to get. its like they are thinking that mario = sales right away. we want core gamers? port assasins creed and CoD and get bayonetta and zombieU. i honestly am starting to think that nintendo dont know what they are doing. they are trying to get everybody, the core, the casuals and nintendo fans but are actually failing to get any

DS and Wii flourished side by sid like Steak and Lobster on the same plate. Wii U just pales in comparison right now. Bone in Ribeye with one bay shrimp. Nintendo Direct we need you. Iwata needs to get his suit back from the dry cleaners and scratch our itch through the boots again.

DS and Wii both had entirely different concepts. 3DS and WiiU are kinda similar. Both have a gyroscope, dual screens, touch control.

DS was revoluntionary touch screen gaming, Wii was motion gaming. They kinda converged this gen.

Then make the convergence count!  Announce some kind of 3DS XL Wii U orgy and get some buzz going.

Miyamoto's planning it, don't worry, it's coming.

Let's hope it comes out before Vitality Sensor U

I actually think Nintendo didn't market the Wii U with full force like they have done with other consoles before. This is because they probably didn't want to create a huge demand and fall short of supply, which I believe was the case for the Wii. They probably thought that all the hardcore Nintendo fans would buy out the first batch of consoles they shipped. What they probably didn't expect was that the console would fall so far behind expectations and not even the hardcore fans buying it in droves.

So I think they are going to start to crank up the marketing on the Wii U soon enough and deliver the message of what the console actually is. Plus some games to go with it as well.

A lot of them are still waiting on Pikmin and Metroid. They might not be system sellers per se, but there are some people holding back.

If the 3DS had sold 2.5m units in the USA in December, then I would maybe consider this line of thought. Nah, actually even then I wouldn't.

The Wii U isn't selling well, because it's quite expensive and doesn't have enough games to justify its price. Most potential owners probably can't think of more than two games they are going to buy between now and fall. Somebody at Nintendo had the braindead idea that it would be a good move to not reveal anything regarding future Nintendo games. There's nothing people can look forward to and that makes the Wii U an especially hard sale.

There seems to be a lot of braindead people in Nintendo lately because we get nothing announced early, it seems.

well when you announce early you get versus, the last guardian, agent, etc. But I guess that still gets people to buy it :P. And you don't have to announce it that early.

Its too early to say about the Wii-U's fate, we gotta wait for its first christmas....oh wait l0l.

But seriously, its too early to say if its failed or not. Give it about 4-5 years or whenever Wii-X (or whatever letter) is announced (same with the Vita).

The Vita has had one Christmas in NA/Europe and two Christmas's in Japan. We've waited.
