Take out Japan then check your figures again. One region produces a massive skew when the global sales are so close. The reason is simple. There is demand for the PS3 there but not the 360.

Does it matter? The job is to have games that appeal to as many audiences as possible. Not just one or two.

The gap in Japan is ~7.3m
The gap in USA is ~15m

The gap in America is double the gap in Japan. Lets take America out of the picture. See how things look then. After all the real massive "skew" comes from USA.

Rubbish, of course the gap in america is bigger as its a lot bigger market.  Market share is the only way to compare them and it backs up my statement that Japan is horribly skewed.

Marketshares? Okay. Lets compare marketshares.

The 360 holds 37.5% of the American marketshare.
The PS3 holds 38.5% of the Japanese market.

They are fairly equal, marketshare-wise, in the respective markets. The PS3 has performed in Japan, just as well as the 360 performed in America. What youre arguing though, is we remove all the hard work from Sony, just because Microsoft are incapable of getting the Japanese to like the 360.

How about you stop crying about it and accept it for what it is? The second biggest videogame market.

If you want to try and insult people and be uncivil, don't be surprised when people ignore you.  Your comparison is still pathetic.

I wasnt insulting you, but if you want to come up with ludicrous statements and ideas just so your preference can win, then dont be surprised when people call you out on it.

Whats pathetic is suggesting we ignore the 2nd largest videogame market just because one console sells like shit.

When you talk about the "skew", be also reminded a console like 3DS has had  relatively earth shattering figures in Japan and that's when you finalize things with the notion that Japan does not have enough gaming audience and therefore never counts as a significant market. Also the numbers for 360 in Japan speak for themselves. Of course what matters now and for this topic is how PS3 performs relatively in all markets. And prove me wrong if PS3 has performed in US as bad as 360 in Japan.

So you at least conceded that the 360 outsells the PS3 every year without Japan, even if its ludicrous?  That was my point, nothing more or less.  Japan is the only reason this happened.  Its not about winning or losing, its about understanding why this occurred.  The 360 has 7% market share there while the PS3 has 23% in NA.  Japan is clearly massively skewed compared to the rest of the world and its that region alone which made the difference this gen.  I'm not asking he removed them for a comparison to say the 360 won, it was so when you look at the figures without Japan its clear to see that their is no massive extra demand globally for the PS3, they've been very similar outside of Japan.

And also other emerging markets. Where's Torok? I wish he can send in the details.

Of course, there is no arguing that at all.

To whoever started this thread, keep it coming!
Seriously, I lol at these threads. It doesn't matter if more PS3s were sold in this and that year.
Xbox is still leading.

The true winners of this generation are Nintendo and Microsoft. Compare the market shares of each company from last gen to this and you'll notice why Sony is declining.

And why doesn't it matter if more PS3's were sold this and that year? It shows peoples demand for the PS3 is GREATER than the 360 DESPITE it coming out 1 YEAR LATER than the 360.

Any 360 fanboy on here *cough*sales2099 for example*cough* is just trying to cover their eyes from the truth, it doesn't matter if the PS3 overtook the 360 in the beggining or the end of this Gen, fact is it WILL, but idiotic fanboys like to pretend that "it doesn't matter" and that "the new Xbox will be out soon so who cares".

PS3 will be 2nd, 360 will be 3rd, stick that up your arse 360 fanboys.

Like I said, it doesn't matter. The flame inside you is burning for more!

Who is in 2nd place right now? Exactly. Yes, PS3 sells better than Xbox but for some odd reason, Xbox is still leading. MS and Nintendo have taken the market and split it this gen. Shove that fact up yours .

Yeah, odd that is.

I'm trying to be a friendly guy. I'm an Xbox guy, but I got nothing against the PS3. It's a helluva of a machine.

Besides, Xbox needs PS3 and PS3 needs Xbox. More competition means more stuff for us!

It's 2008 actually, not 2009. PS3 whooped 360 in 2009 because of the slim

Define "whooped". I'm looking at two consoles with nearly the same totals yet ging into this gen SOny completely dominated the previous two generations. The Wii and the 360 knocked the King of his hill. The PS3 has made a great partial comeback, but the Playstation brand is not THE gaming icon it used to be. MS has secured it's place and the next generation will be even more competitive.

If we were talking about football teams I don't think anyone would be celebrates a win between two wild card teams that didn't make it to the Superbowl.

Not the gaming icon as PS2, but still a strong brand worldwide. Prove me wrong. SNES domination declined to N64 and Gamecube's level for Nintendo only to be reinvited to the same spot with Wii glory. But the Wii U worries me. But it's too early to make any predictions. PS3 is still selling better than 360 on a worldwide level. Prove me wrong. So believing 360 has sealed or stole the second place this gen and it's time to move on by turning a blind eye doesn't change anything for the playstation brand yet, but maybe for the XBOX brand which needs a successor quite soon. But I'm yet to see how MS will continue to add support to 360, but once '720' is launched, I feel MS will stop developing titles, let alone arcade ones for it, sooner than expected to get the better chunk of the business drive.

Marathon runners and  Sprinters have a common motive " Win the Race". Who wants to deny that?

What a bunch of nonsense and spin.

PSX =  Winner

PS2 = Winner

PS3 =  Loser

The PS3 took the entire generation to barely outsell the Xbox 360 and it will never beat the Wii. The Playstation brand is half what it used to be. During the last two generation if you wanted to play the best games you had to have a PS1 and then a PS2. But this gen people decided they didn't need a PS3 because they were happy with their Xbox 360 or Wii. The Playstation brand has fallen a long way while the Xbox brand has seen a huge increase in popularity.

As for the Nextbox. Who care if MS supports the 360 after the Nextbox is released? New games on the newest consoles are much more appealing than games on an old console. I stopped buying PS2 games after the next gen started. Just because it was still supported doesn't mean any of it was worth buying.

tisk tisk, silly little arguments.

it doesn't matter how PS3 came this far. games software means everything, but what game outsold what whatever doesn't.

are the games, or the brand what brought PS3 back from a disastrous run, i don't know, but taking one market out of the equation isn't productive, and is nothing but B.S. being added to the conversation, and it's pointless.

cause when you take one market, 1 country, 1 game or anything out of the equation. either console losses.

if you take America away from Wii, it becomes last place with only 58m sold ww. see how stupid taking one market out of the discussion is.

And 2011 apparently as stated by Microsoft.

Tease.
