Oops, meant Melty Monster. I get those mixed up. And fixed the OP, thanks.

Are you sure it's a Gusty Garden remix? It sounds nothing like it. This is the first I've heard of that. I'm pretty sure it's not...

I was talking about Melty Monster, Throwback, Puzzle Plank, Slipsand, and Starship Mario mainly.

Sorry I was confused with World S. It's six repeats of a seven second segment, then the 'chorus' part is a title screen remix. In my mind that's not enough of an original song to be able to like.

I accept Puzzle Plank/Starship. Slipsand I can see how others would like due to different tastes. How people credit remixes or part-remixes as good I have no idea at all.

What about Melty Monster?

As for Throwback, yeah I know it's a remix but I think because it's a new orchestra remix, it's substantial enough to count as new. I mean it's a rather old track. I see your point though so I'll just leave it at that.

The first bit IS referring to melty monster.

I know it's impossible to agree on whether music is good, so I'm trying to go more on effort here. In terms of minutes of original melodic music SMG wins. Whenever I download any music at all I use Audacity to cut out every repeat.

Umm...I'm confused lol. World S is a remix of Gusty Garden. But Melty Monster is different...

Edit: Wait are you saying World S has some Melty Monster in it in the beginning? Well, kinda. It's more Gusty Garden but it sounds similar to Melty Monster in the beginning. But you hear Melty Monster before World S anyway...

World S - Gusty Garden remix I confused with MM

Melty Monster - ' It's six repeats of a seven second segment, then the 'chorus' part is a title screen remix.

Sorry for confusion. '

Galaxy 2 is on of my TOP 3 Mario game of all time. Behind Super mario world (at number 2) and Super mario world 2: Yoshis island

IMO, Galaxy1 had the luxury of being totaly new and original, this is why I believe it is sligthly higher in the ratings while some blamed Galaxy2 to be more of the same.

And I'd agree but Galaxy2 is more of the same... but better. So my vote is Galaxy2.

I'm enjoying it too. Yesterday went to a second hand shop and sold a crappy Wii U game I got during the holidays. Decided to get Super Mario Galaxy 2 to obtain more store credit.
When I got home, I played the first world, getting all stars and coins (although it says I only completed one planet) and had a blast! My wrist started hurting xD so I stopped... this didn't happen with SMG1 - think I've gone soft.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are a typical example of how Nintendo works, really. They do something that's new and different with one game, and then they stick to that formula, gradually making each game better. The sequels lose the lack of awe that the first game gives, but the small improvements everywhere offset it. Then, after a few sequels, they radically change the formula again.

Other examples of this are the Fire Emblem series (well, post FE6, at least), the Zelda series (at least with OoT to MM to TP) and the NSMB series.

To me, the games give different kinds of enjoyment. Super Mario Galaxy 1 gave a constant feeling of awe and excitement, while Super Mario Galaxy 2 was much more laidback and feelgood.

This is, again, similar to the difference between Twilight Princess - which was more like Super Mario Galaxy 2 - and Skyward Sword - which was more ala Super Mario Galaxy 1. Or, in the Fire Emblem series, Radiant Dawn threading new ground and being like SMG 1, while the two DS games are more ala Super Mario Galaxy 2.

They fullfill different roles. I usually prefer the "new and exciting" games, and that's the case with the Galaxy games. I put SMG 1 slightly higher than SMG 2.

It is the best rated game this generation for a reason =P. Super Mario Galaxy series is the only reason I regret not owning a Wii.

God knows how that came to be.

Ah yes...I know many people who bought a wii back in 2007 only to ply SMG... In my opinion its the best game together with SMG2 you can get on the wii...
Its a Nintendo game at its finest... stunning graphics, superb gameplay, kickass music and an astonishing atmosphere!....
Many websites regard it as the best videogame of all time...

For me personally SMG2 was a tick better because they used an overworld similiar to super mario world which I thought suited this game better..

Well for one the platforming involved more than just holding up on the analog stick, and the physics didn't feel like you were loosely controlling a ragdoll. ;)
