"Releasing new consoles now"

Now... like in 11~23 months? Yeah...

23 months? really? its most likely in 9 or10 months. i dont see any of them waiting for xmas next year. Q1 2014 max

"really?", like i know when they will release...

lol that "really" was ment to question your prediction of 11~23 months. not actually asking

1. There is a lot of competition out there.(Steambox, Smartphones/tablets..etc)
2. Both consoles are down YOY and will continue to be.
3. There is only so much developers can do on current-gen consoles. We reached the limit a long time ago.(in terms of multiplats)

Yes, while games as killer awesome as Halo 4 prove that our current gen systems still have life left, at some point your have sold to everyone who is going to buy your console. We have nearly reached that saturation point. The only thing you can do as a manufacturer is discontinue the old, end support, and put out a new model and sell it to everyone who wants the latest games.

That's not crazy, it's good business.

OK, but isn't the point of the console maker to get to a point where you actually are not looking money on the hardware, which for MS and especially Sony that takes some years, to get to the point where your just raking in the cash from game sales and a large user base?

That's whats been going on for the last 4 or 5 years. MS sells the Xbox 360 for more than it costs them to make and ever game sales makes them money as well as all the XBLA subscribtions. But consumers slow down at the end of the gen. Now we are at a point where people aren't buying games as much as they used to. This happens at the end of every generation. It's a natural part of the cycle. Everyone wants the next big thing and amazing games like Halo 4 are giving us a taste of the sweet next gen we all want to experiences.

Sony would be rolling in cash right now if the PS3 hadn't cost so much to produce and MS would have been even richer had they not had to fix the RROD. We are already past the point of when these consoles would have been racking in the cast from game sales. It's time to movie on when the people stop buying and they have started their slow decline.

Time for the PS4.

The PS3 IS still at it's prime of it's life still kicking ass & taking names, On the other hand the Xbox360 is dying.

Around the Network

wow, ok, most people here seem to think it's time for both a new PS and Xbox, but who where those people a year ago at the time of the rumors of Wii U that claimed they were happy with their current gen and consoles for at least another few years?

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

When were systems announced?

Read his prediction this way, at earliest November of 2013, latest November 2014. This sounds very reasonable to me.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Except eleven months from now it'll be almost mid-december already. I think maybe he indeed had in mind on having his "11-23" months to span 2014 as a whole.

I know that was some kind of irony...
And yea, i dont see they releasing a new consoles like 1~2 months after E3, and i also dont see they will missing 2014 xmas.

And 360 and PS3 still show some impressive numbers, but a new consoles are needed, for both inovation and to compete with WiiU. Sony and MS can sell they new console at a lost, but if 360 and PS3 give them some profit, this will minimize what they will lose with the new consoles.

Well, thats what i think.
