This is pretty rich coming from someone who is recommending Samsung products.  Their entire business model involves ripping off other companies.

Hey now, that's only part of Samsung's business model.  It also involves bribing government officials and abusing standards-essential patents.

Jane you ignorant slut.  While Jobs understands the meaning of "good artists copy; great artists steal" (a sentiment expressed earlier by T.S. Eliot), it's clear that the creator of the video does not.  Do you?

Apple hasn't invented anything since The Great and Powerfull Woz left. Steven Jobs is nothing more than a thief with good taste. Apple steals everything and sues others for the same.

Nothing Apple has made in the last 30 years is better then their competitor's products. The only thing Apple does better than anyone else is trick people into joining their cult.

If price is the primary concern, I'd suggest buying the Nexus 7 over the Kindle Fire. The few extra bucks will buy you a better user experience.

If ease of use and software support matter, it's definitely worth considering the iPad Mini. For elderly eyes, the sharpness of text (PPI) often isn't as important as the absolute size of the text, and the iPad Mini screen is a considerable 35% larger.

My mom recently bought an iPad4. She tested all of the other tablets on the market before the desicion, but for her the other tablets were not good enough. Especially the displays lacked compared to the iPad.

My grandmother's friend uses a Kindle Fire and she likes it. She uses it for reading in her rocking chair. It doesn't have to the HD version. If you don't want the OS to be limited at all, you can go with a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 which I own... you can find it for $200 or so and it has all the features of the Kindle Fire plus a built in IR (for changing TV channels) which is reeeally useful.

But yes, I am Android all the way, but do consider iPad Mini... yes, it is expensive. And people are like "Blah, Apple products are ovepriced". I am pro-Android myself, but Apple makes very user friendly products. Play with it yourself and ask yourself if your mother might have less stress using it... it just depends. Some people adjust better to new things than others.

Yes it's dumbed down. But that's the point. It's dumbed down. That's not necessarily a bad thing... think about the iPod, it only has a few buttons and a spinny wheel thing on it. iPhone only has one button besides power(?)... how can you screw that up?

When I did cell phone/mp3 sales a long time ago, this made a lot of difference for people.

Nexus 7 is good and a lot of people rave about the user experience and how fluid Android Jelly Bean feels on it, but keep in mind it has NO external memory... unlike the Galaxy Tab 2.

Galaxy Tab 2 has a front/back camera too if it matters, but it's not a great one.

It's amazing how many professional developers Apple tricks into their "cult". People who work on computers every day and use them to code things like this website you're using right now.

"Jane, you ignorant slut", indeed.

Grow the fuck up, people. It's a logo on a goddamned box. Are your lives really so god-awful insignificant that monolithic companies' success matters to you? Why does this fucking matter? (short answer: it doesn't)

And are you really making the argument that the original iPhone wasn't better than what Blackberry and Windows Mobile was offering at the time? You're joking with that comment "Nothing Apple has made in the last 30 years is better then their competitor's products", right? Because I owned both Blackberry and WinMob devices when the iPhone released. To shorten the story, WinMob was awful. Blackberry seemed great until the iPhone released and changed the entire game. Blackberry went from cutting edge to "this seems like five year old tech" overnight.

As for the OP, I'd go with a Nexus 10 or an iPad (full-sized). Old people have bad eyes. The higher screen res and larger screens on those devices will help enormously (not to mention that they offer what are the two easiest-to-use-for-a-luddite UIX interfaces). I'd probably lean toward an iPad but that's just me. The iOS ecosystem is stupid-simple to use and operate.

So I ended up getting my mom a 16gb Kindle Fire HD last Saturday. I got it delivered to my house on Thursday and I had a couple of days to play with it before handing over to her a few hours ago. This was my first experience with a tablet and I gotta say, I liked having it around. Amazon's ecosystem is decent with Prime but I think when I get a tablet for myself, I'm gonna go with a Nexus 7. I think I'd appreciate the more open Android approach.

As far as the Kindle as a piece of hardware, I thought it was real nice for a $200 device (that's what I paid for each of my kids 8gb ipods last year). Streamed HD movies from Netflix and Amazon looked great and the audio was real impressive. Initially, I didn't think that something like Dolby Digital Plus would make a difference on something so small but it really stood out. I also like the idea of having a mini-hdmi port as I was able to quickly plug into my plasma and watch movies. Is it a complete necessary thing for me? No because I could watch that stuff using my 360 but it's quick and simple with the tablet. That's what I noticed about using the tablet in general, everything is so quick and simple when it comes to doing basic stuff. I'm also interested in the direction they are going with mobile devices when it comes to using them for your TV, like controlling them. It seems like being able to watch TV on a tablet could be a cool little perk too. I'm hoping that the next Nexus 7 to be released has upgraded audio and the mini-hdmi port. I could think of some other things to want but keeping in that very friendly sub-$300 price range, I don't expect more.

So that's it, I'm on the super cheap tablet bandwagon now waiting to see what, if anything, Google does next with the Nexus 7.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.
