As for the OP, I'd go with a Nexus 10 or an iPad (full-sized). Old people have bad eyes. The higher screen res and larger screens on those devices will help enormously (not to mention that they offer what are the two easiest-to-use-for-a-luddite UIX interfaces). I'd probably lean toward an iPad but that's just me. The iOS ecosystem is stupid-simple to use and operate.
