The Witcher 2 - amazing.

Planescape: Torment is a must, there's nothing like it after all this years, off course, if you don't mind old isometric CRPGs from Black Isle and Bioware's golden days (also Fallout 1/2 from same developer, another classics)

KOTOR 1/2, if you missed that.

Vampire: The Masquerade, yet another (underappreciated) classic, but needs bit of patching first.

Gothic 1/2 (even 3, but with mandatory patching).

All of the above, I actually find the Gothic series to be superior to the Elder Scrolls series, especially Oblivion and Skyrim compared to Gothic 3. The Elder Scrolls have gone downhill (imo) while the Gothic series has only gotten better, stay away from Arcania though, Piranha Bytes no longer develop the series and it took a nose dive. Risen is also terrific, equal to Gothic 3 in all ways save for scope and also made by Piranha Bytes.

The Vampire: The Masquerade game is a superb title, Bloodlines is also a stellar game allround.

Anything from Black Isle is a safe bet, I think I own every title on both disc and digital version by now, play them at least once a year.

Selnor; yeah, The Witcher 2 is a sensational game, truly deep and satisfying, fun gameplay and still among the only 3rd person titles that have managed to hold on to me and keep me interested with action elements. The visuals and voice acting is simply at the very peak of modern RPG's and gaming in general, CD Projekt put some of the behemoth developers to shame with this game.

It shows in your signature that you have a PS3, so I'll start there.

The only games that have truly huge worlds are the Elder Scrolls series, Oblivion and Skyrim are on PS3.  The story isn't too great with the Elder Scrolls, but it's atleast bearable and the sidequest stories are just as good as the main quest storyline so that's a plus. I would recommend these games over the Dragon Age games for sure though. Reason for this is that while some of the main quest Dragon Age Origins story is "decent," most of the storyline to Dragon Age Origins is boring. The storyline to just about every side quest in both Dragon Age series will have no problem at all putting you to sleep,

If you get Oblivion, you'll be fine with the PS3 version. Skyrim they fixed the lag issue and it should run between 25-30fps now(I'd still recommend PC.) If you get Dragon Age Origins, get the PC version. The PS3 version has horrible framerate and with how bad your ally AI is, you'll want to be able to use a mouse to easily control all your characters.

Strictly PC now. GOG is doing a good sale where there are a lot of cheap games for the PC. Might and Magic 1-6 for only $5 right now. Each game is very good. Great gameplay with huge worlds. The only thing about these games is that they're lacking in storyline. If you can get past the no story aspect of them, then I highly recommend picking these up.

On the PS2, there's Final Fantasy 12. Great storyline, huge world, a ton of content. The only problem with this game is the gambit system so you might feel as if you lack control of the characters. This game is playable in widescreen, so if you have a backwards compatible PS3 or a widescreen PC monitor, you can play the game upscaled.

There are a ton of JRPGs though, all with large worlds, good story(much better than WRPGs atleast,) and good gameplay. A few good ones you can pick up right now on PSN are Grandia, Wild ARMs, Wild ARMs 2, Xenogears, and Arc the Lad 2(TRPG.) Final Fantasy 4 Complete Collection for PSP is the best version of FF4 and has all content from every other release, including The After Years which overall sucks but an amazing 10+ hour final chapter(you need to suffer through the other chapters which range from 30 minutes to an hour each.)

Yeah, I also enjoyed Gothic way more - I do love Morrowind, but other than that, I've never been huge fan of Elder Scrolls - for my taste, I find both Might and Magic VI/VII and Wizardry 8 better open world RPGs than most of ES games, to be honest.

i just bought new vegas on steam :) hope it's as good as you say.

If your interested in mods, NMC's Texture pack and Neveda skies will really shine this game up because the graphics are shit. Also 4GB new vegas.

After you beat the game, just add more from there. Hope you like it.

I prefer the look of the original, the look chosen by the game's professional design team. Those new textures make it look like a completely different game. Yes, they're higher rez, but who stares intently at the ground anyway?

Lol you think they chose to keep Fallout 3's ugly left over scrap textures already held back by a terrible engine &weak consoles? i think they had no choice and would have changed them in a second if they could have. Sure, maybe it wouldn't look like NMC's texture pack, but come on anything looks better than Fallout's DC textures tossed into Nevada.

This

Vs

The little details add up and can make for a more interesting world that pulls you in further. The game is still amazing mods or not.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Pretty... maybe. But totally wrong. I'd choose the original look over this tacky HDR wannabe any day.

Yeah, Might & Magic are great games! I have the GOG version of M&M VI, VII and VIII! Finished VII a while back and I'm starting VIII after new year's! They seem simple on the surface and the interface takes a lot of getting used to but the games themselves are surprisingly deep and the gameplay is super-addictive! There's also an incredible variation in enemies, more so than any other open world RPG I can think of and the game world is truly massive as well as greatly varied (variation is the biggest weakness of the Elder Scrolls series, M&M and Gothic beat the hell out of the Elder Scrolls in this department).

M&M VIII is a bit weaker entry into series, but still satisfying to play. I'm patiently waiting to see when will that fan based project (M&M X) get released, it's been 10 years since we had new entry. Of course, there's always chance that Ubi, as owner of rights to franchise since 2003, will decide to compete with Bethesda and make some new game, but I'm not sure should I be looking forward to it, considering there's very little chance, in my opinion, they would stick to original formula.
