let squaresoft slip through their fingers

They should've bought a big chunk of Squaresoft probably around 93/94 and compromised on the CD-ROM thing.

The two companies were very close anyway with Nintendo publishing Final Fantasy in the West on the NES and Squaresoft making Super Mario RPG, which at that time was one of the few games an outside studio got to make using Mario.

Nintendo owning a chunk of Rare + Squaresoft + a CD/cart combo N64 would've been lights out.

Yeah, I dont think the PS1 would have been that successful if Ninty had managed to keep Final Fantasy.

GameCube - Making it essentially PS2 for 6 year olds.
N64 - Making it without CD media, killing its potential and ruining Nintendo 3rd part support forever.
Virtual Boy - Making it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The limited availability of Four Swords during the 25th anniversary. Although some of my friends have 3DS's now I am the only one who has this game and so we can't play multiplayer. You can't even buy the fucking game. It really grinds my gears more than it should but we want to play this game multiplayer and we know the game exists for 3DS but nobody can get it now.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Virtual Boy
Game Boy Micro - a complete waste of time by Nintendo
Super Mario Bros Movie

As much as I like Cartridges, not going to discs with the N64 is probably their biggest mistake so far.

- The virtual boy
- Going with cartridges for the N64
- Practically abandoning the Wii in 2011
- Not launching the Wii U with a game that really showed off its muscle

Nintendo not going through with Sony was the best thing they ever did, Sony wanted full control over Nintendo which would basically have made Nintendo third party.

Wait, that might have worked out in the end... Hmm.

To answer the question: cartridges for N64, mini DVD's for GameCube, Wii was not powerful enough (didn't have to be HD but better graphics card and more RAM would have helped), Wii U is one giant mistake basically. And above all: any refusal to listen to or cooperate with third party developers.

Imagine if Sony had eventually made Nintendo a first party studio *head explodes*  They would have all the time they wanted and creative freedom as Sony has demonstrated with Polyphony, ND, and Japan Studio

Although I really like the situation as it is right now the thought is interesting. With Nintendo as 1st party developer the PS2 should easily have managed 200 Mio sales. Also, Xbox probably wouldn't be as big as it is now, since the Ninty fans probably would have pushed the PS3 even at a price of 600 Euro. HD Metroid or Zelda short after launch...bye bye Xbox. Not to forget how SSB could look like...SSBUxPSABR, MAKE IT HAPPEN

I wasn't even thinking of how much more power Nintendo's developers would have at their disposal.  Sony would have to treat them right and give them time like I said or people like Miyamoto would just leave, but if the teams stayed together it would be monstrous.
