Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Worst Moves in History (Nintendo)

The only bad moves from Ninty are that they didn't launched the 3DS with a Mario Game and they have very bad 3rd party support on the Wii.

Nintendo not going through with Sony was the best thing they ever did, Sony wanted full control over Nintendo which would basically have made Nintendo third party.

Wait, that might have worked out in the end... Hmm.

To answer the question: cartridges for N64, mini DVD's for GameCube, Wii was not powerful enough (didn't have to be HD but better graphics card and more RAM would have helped), Wii U is one giant mistake basically. And above all: any refusal to listen to or cooperate with third party developers.

Biggest mistake IMO was not using a CD drive for the N64. I think I read somewhere that FF7 was not released on the N64 because the bad capacity of the cartridges didn´t allow the developers to put pre-rendered into the game. 3rd-party support should have been much better with a CD drive.

This is kind of incorrect. The original deal that Nintendo signed in 1988 with Sony would have given Sony a lot of software royalties.

Nintendo objected, and in 1992 they came to another agreement where Nintendo would get royalties.

Honestly though, even worse come to worse, if Nintendo had sat down with their major third party partners (Squaresoft, Enix, Capcom, and Konami) in late 1993 when Project: Reality was announced (the N64) and said "look we know you guys want CD-ROM, so lets compromise, we'll add a CD drive into our 64-bit system".

If *that* had happened, I think games like Final Fantasy VII would've been N64 exclusive, and Sony's platform would've been DOA.

Sony would not be able to compete against Nintendo if they had to go against an N64 that had Mario 64, GoldenEye, Final Fantasy VII, Zelda: OoT, Dragon Quest VII, and multiplats of all the Capcom/Konami stuff.

In hindsight, Nintendo should've also just bought minority stakes in both Squaresoft and Enix as well. They were all super close anyway, and Nintendo bought a stake in Rareware, why not Squaresoft and Enix too

Nintendo did not refuse to use CDrom on the N64, they couldnt find a partner in time to meet the deadline

Thinking that a joint R&D project with Sony was a good idea...

I LOVE ICELAND!

Yanking the Virtual Boy out off Yokoi's hands and dump it on the market, despite Yokoi saying that it was not ready and blaming him in the process that it hasn't sold well... I wept when I found out about it.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

"Terrible mistakes indeed! Keep on with the bad decisions!"
YEAH lets bash Nintendo!!! :) (Joke)

I think the Game Boy Advance was a good Handheld but 80 Million for a NINTENDO portable could be called a flopp! (or not?)

Using cartridges on the N64
