First: I'm not convinced this is not a hoax.

Second: If true, that would be great news. The flashcard brought me much homebrew-software. lmp-ng turned my DS-Lite into a MP3-player. DSOrganize was a great application, that I miss on 3DS. And homebrew games like Meteora were fun to play.

For all the doomsayers: hacking did neither hurt the DS nor the Wii, the probably easiest to hack consoles. And if you own an iPhone, the same process is called jailbreaking and is not usually negatively seen. I will not pirate my games, because I like to support the creators of good games. But I want to use the device I paaid for to the full possible extent. and that includes homebrew. But history suggests, that jailbreaking has no measurable influence on the success of device and games.

So a PSP? I jest, I jest...

The original DS was hacked in half the time. It should be fine.

Don't understand why people expend so much effort trying to get a five-finger discount on games...

for the ones that actually do the hacking and exploiting, its usually just to test their abilities and see if they can.

Which just opens up a can of worms. Though I feel liek they do it for the free games honestly.

thats part of it. its also to open up a platform more to see what can be done with it. the end users , on the other hand, free games tends to be the focus.

The only positive thing of hacking would be the removal of region-locking, which is really damaging the western (and especially european) consumers.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

becuase these are the very same people that moan about how the market is dead.

Hacking is killing games. No money made no new games to be created. More money made, new IP, better games and possibly less expensive games.

Switch!!!

Wow, really much hating against the jailbreaking here. Do you all also don't hack your phones?

And why the assumption, that it is used for piracy? Do you not know the great homebrew? And honestly, all experience says, taht hacking a device has no effect on sales of either games or devices. The NDS and the Wii both got early jailbreaked and it was easy and without risk to do.

Well, what did you expect? :D

Years of brainwashing that piracy is bad, it hurting the industry etc. I can accept fact that it's illegal, but certain people make assumptions that it's even worse, it's... immoral, as bad as stealing. And this I just cannot take. Next time they say that used games are bad.

HUH?   At the end of life of the 3ds there will be 100's if not 1000's of games.  That amounts to thousands and thousands if not 10's of thousands of dollars not spent.  Also saves on getting into a game and deciding you just spent $50 on an aborted fetus of a game.

That doesn't even consider the people who hack just for the rush of it.  Trust me...in my younger years I used to hack...one of my crowning achievements was hacking and then creating accounts for my friends on a seriously important Whitesands missle base server tracking trajectories of launched weapons.  We didn't do it to hurt anyone like people do now but I felt as high as any drug has ever made me when I got it.

It's not even that piracy is bad. I do not pirate and I think you should buy a game if you want it. But here the main thing is: jailbreaking = piracy. There are much more things that are possible with homebrew or avoiding region locking (taht is no piracy either).

And to the used games: not games, but for software we had now some court-decisions in europe, that basically allow used software. The company named usedSoft got multiple law-suits, because they sell used software.
