You don't have to be very smart to spell "mod" correctly. And no, this isn't prejudice at all. No one's judging you. It's just asking people to put forth a small effort to make posts easier to read.

Everyone has a strong opinion. They aren't going to change this just because of data or argument, because to do that would be giving up their world view. Thus rational argument is treated as personal attack, things get emotional, and the only posts that then get responded to are the troll ones.

The solution is 'Nazi' moderation. Zero tolerance, all trolling or personal attacks or off-topic posts receive short bans without warning. It works on the pro video game site Team Liquid, which manages constructive discussion despite a high user count.

Isn't there a way to do it without being Nazi? I mean I'm just wondering if there is the possibility of having a solidarity group. I mean, between people who want to remain neutral and foster healthy discussion. Is that something that's possible without getting rules involved? I just wish those who wanted a better place could rally and unite to help fix this problem, it's becoming a plague.

We don't need to agree to have an intelligent conversation Ryan. You know that.

Also, I'm personally Canadian, and I care about spelling, I think it shows a level of intelligence that, for anyone capable of spelling (yes, I know you are), is an important step towards showing good will and interest in the conversation. It forsters healthy debate.

If noone gave a shit about trolls, why is this thread already at some 20 posts?

Well what I mean is stop being lenient on poor posts. Currently they can be found in any thread on VGC and they add nothing. That's not a bad thing in a casual forum but it means the discussion gets buried.

Maybe create a Serious Discussion forum with higher standards? And you can get banned from posting on that board specifically if post quality is not high enough (but I'm not talking a high bar here). Sales Discussion could be that board actually.
