i want to ask nintendo owners something and im not trying to bash or attack nintendo, if you want to argue with me please just ignore my post and move on. my question is, dont you nintendo owners sometimes get bored with nintendo news? the reason im saying this is because there is never element of surprise, it always a matter of "when" not "what" games will be released? dont you guys want something new? does it have to be the same games everytime? looking at that poll its just the same thing for over 20 years now you can say.

again not trying to start shit, just an honest question. since nintendo consoles are known for little 3rd party support people buy it for its 1st party games only, so i want to know the opinion of nintendo only owners

Well there is an element of surprise...of course Nintendo IPs are more or less always based more or less on the same characters. but it's not like all the games are the same.

Mario Galaxy for example had a big surprise element. Of course, it was obvious Nintendo was going to make another Mario game sooner or later, but no one was expecting something like that. It's still a 3D Mario game, but it's completely different from its predeccessors, and before you saw it, the whole idea of Super Mario in space would hve sounded odd if not dumb

Also, not every Nintendo IP gets a proper entry on every console, Metroid skipped the N64, Pikmin skipped the Wii, Donkey Kong Counrty Return was a comeback after 15 years, right now a lot of people are asking a true spiritual successor of Starfox64 (another 15 years old game), and F-zero (the last one was in 2003). Now, it's true a sequel of a very old IP is not something unprecedented like a completely new IP, but after many years a sequel could still feel fresh. Let me ask you a question: if tomorrow Naughty Dog announces a sequel to Crash Bandicoot or to Jak & Daxter, wouldn't you be anticipating it? I guess you would (so would I anyway).

As for the question of "don't you whant something new?" My personal opinion is that games are not like a books or movies. If you see 6 sequels of the same movie you know it will inevitably get old, games don't get old if developers are able to make them better, and to add somthing that will make them feel fresh, Nintendo is particulary good in doning so, imo. That said, I welcome new IPs but I don't whant them just for the sake of getting something new. Very often a new IP doesn't feel fresh at all to me, and in other cases I see new IPs are just replicating old concepts and making them worse. Of course in other cases I get superb games like Demon's Souls.

In other words my top priority is to get great games, my second priority is to get games that feel fresh, getting a new IP may be 3rd priority, since a game can be great and feel fresh even if it's not a new IP. Anyway, I prefer Nintendo but I have all consoles maybe if was an only-Nintendo owner I would be pissed...but I'm not. so I don't know :P

ohh i would be very excited to get a new crash game no doubt about that, and no doubt i get excited about sequals. and i do agree games can have more sequals than movies/books. also i would like to point that i do love sequals and i do love getting them and i certainly dont want to get new IP's just for the sake of a new IP, but i also dont want to be stuck in a routine, and honestly thats how i feel it is when reading nintendo news, just nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. honestly this is more of a problem with MS than nintendo but i just thought of this idea when reading this thread. but honestly take this for an example, isnt the holiday season becoming the most boring quarter of the year? we are basically getting the same thing, CoD, AC, battlefield or medal of honor, fifa, maden. its just getting boring and thats just my question, dont people get somewhat bored? the games might be awesome but their just sequals and nothing really new

Check 3DS eshop for new Nintendo IPs.  Let me list them for you... Pushmo/Crashmo, Sakura Samurai, Ketzal's Corridors, Dillon's Rolling Western, etc.

i dont have a 3ds to check the eshop so cant help you there :P but wouldnt it be nice if nintendo pushed some of these IP's as they pushed super mario bro's for example?

I forgot about Freakyforms which they released a deluxe version.  Yes, it would be nice but Nintendo is actually doing decently putting their new IP ideas onto the Ware titles.  I expect soon that indie developers might be pissed at Nintendo for releasing such quality 3DSWare titles taking away the sales from them.  I see more new IPs being released onto the eshops of the big 3 than being full retail releases.  This day and age it is a very big gamble putting a new IP onto a full retail release.  Easier to put new ideas onto a smaller budget game and distribute it digitally.  The video game has turned into the movie industry.  Filled with sequels and remakes with very few willing to take the risk on something new/different.

I think the next 3D Mario is gonna be shown off next E3. For new IPs, though, I think it'll be whatever Retro is working on.(Hope it's a new IP)

@Banana

Nintendo usually comes out with something very new each generation. Not just a new IP, but quite often a new genre. You mention a game like Uncharted or others that were new... and they are... but they are just new takes on an adventure games or stealth games or whatever. Nintendo makes new genres, like "the platformer" Marios Bros, "kart games" MarioKart or the "3d platformer" Mario 64. Most modern 3D adventures borrow heavily from what Zelda OoT innovated. You get a strategy title like Pikmin that was like nothing else. Wii sports was a completely new experience that, again, made a new genre that we now call "motion gaming". Mario Galaxy is game experience like nothing else that really made me giggle a few times. As a person who has played and enjoyed Nintendo software for 3 decades now, I enjoy playing those games both for what I can count on (quality, established themes), and for the element of surprise that will turn genres on their edge or makes entire new ones.

I think you mistake familiar characters with familiar gameplay, which are very different things. I can't wait for the reveal of the next 3D Mario... will it be like Galaxy... or something totally new as Galaxy was, as Super Mario Bros was, as Mario 64 was? I can do this while at the same time knowing that whatever it will be, it will be good because their quality is unmatched. I would argue that Mario Galaxy is far more fresh than LBP, that LBP is more inspired my Super Mario Bros. than Galaxy is. And I'm not bashing LBP or Sony in anyway. I'm not an exclusive Nintendo gamer, I like all games, including Nintendo software.

I think the one series that has become stale a bit is Zelda. I would like to see something totally fresh with the next one. I really cool, mystical visual style with dramatic fantasy environments. I would like the gameplay mixed up with quicker combat and less z-targeting. I would enjoy if it borrowed elements from a game it clearly inspired, Arkham Asylum. I would really like to see a game that dramatically switched up the status quo like OoT.

As someone who enjoys Nintendo games, I'm looking forward to both the familiar and whatever curve ball they throw us next.

Wow great responses guys keep it up!!! Dont forget they can make retro games comeback EX: KIU! Me personally hope for an Ice Climber Co op game be a great surprise! Somethig like Kid Icarus for wii u but co-op!! One player on gamepad another on screen!!! Total Nintendomination and it can be so unique!!! Dream pls come true....

That curve ball to me be a Ice climber game!!!! Might sound dumb but look at kid Icarus Uprising??? See my point !!!???

I would love to see a 3D third person Metroid with Co-op. I would also like it if it wasn't called metroid, but something totally new not featuring the life-sucking aliens. Kinda like Prometheus was in the Aliens universe, but not focused on them. My dream game would pluck a little metroid, a little halo and a little Gears of War. Cool enviroments, fighting for your life alone with a friend on a strange planet. It would have the depth of Metroid with gadgets, exploration and so on, but mixed with some of the action of those other games. And multiplayer would be great. If Retro made this... amazing.

I would also be very, very happy to see F-Zero. Retro worked on Mario Kart 7...perhaps this was a warm up for their own racing game?
