Forums - Gaming Discussion - Top 10 Biggest Flops of 2012: Let's discuss

I would add steel battation heavy armor on that list. It was suppose to be the 'hardcore' game for kinect, hell even I got excited for it. Turned out to have horrible controls, sales were lackluster as well. At least they got the 'hard' part right.

I also don't agree with PSASBR being on the list. It has a small opening but huge legs. Free DLC will really help keep sales going. Review wise it is low because of its competition, not because it is a disappointment.

That is based off of your prediction, not facts.  If it proves to have legs then i'll take it off of the list.

I would. One of the biggest franchises this gen, a lot of advertisements, best black friday deals for the bundle and still just 400k. It is a flop.

So is 660k for Forza Horizon also a flop? A game that is in a 3-5m selling franchise and has had more weeks than AC: Liberation to sell?

Edit: And that on a console with a 70m+ userbase vs. ~3m for Vita

Neither one f you are necessarily wrong.  I originally had AC Liberation on the list, not becasue of it's sells but because of the hype and the score it recieved.  Yes 400k is pretty decent for a vita game though but expectation were high

I would agree with keeping AC:L on if it was solely based on Metascore, but certainly not sales. It should be able to reach 700k+ before the end of the year if all goes well. That's pretty damn solid.

Yeah I took that into consideration.  I originally had it at the 10 post but bumped it for sorcery.

Pretty solid list, hard to argue.

I agree with melbye on 007 Legends though, seeing how it just killed a developer today.

I may switch it to the #10 spot if enough people ask and give good reasons.  I had it on my list when i was narrowing them down but I chose Twisted Metal because it basically took the last stab at a once big franchise where as 007 has pretty much been dead for years even though the last one did well.

EDIT:  Actually I'll make a new thread getting people's opinions for the #10 spot.

Well considering hype and all, i think PSASBR should be higher IMO. Great list though and i 100% agree on COD VITA as #1. Also i just looked at usa sales for software, and there is no PSASBR!
NOT IN THE TOP 100'S AND ITS IN ITS SECOND WEEK! I know its not WW sales yet but still its a major flop! Plz sony fans dont come at me i predicted 600k b4 2012 is up but now i wouldnt be suprise if it doesnt surpass 400k

For that very reason, really.

Twisted Metal still sold more than half a million on one platform, while 007 Legends is ~ 100k across two platforms.

When James Bond games used to be big, they were much bigger than Twisted Metal ever was (Highest selling TM game is 2.44 million.  Goldeneye; Agent Under Fire; Nightfire and Tomorrow Never Dies have all considerably outsold this amount as PS2 releases alone, not counting Xbox and GC sales).

Your list, your call.  But it seems much fairer to include on this list than TM does.

I know, I made a vote thread.  I want it to be fair and as accurate as possible.  Not just my opinion but everybody's.  If everybody thinks I need to replace Twisted metal with 007 then that is what I'll do.

To be honest - not having a go here, but if you want to make the most 'fair' flop thread you can, you'd need to get everyone's opinions.

I don't have a problem with this list because it is your list, so your opinion.  But you seem to be indecisive between Metacritic score, user reactions, brand loyalty, forum expectations and sales performance for how a game has flopped.  You don't really define which is more important when making your decisions, so why Resident Evil 6 is below Medal of Honor Warfighter but higher than Fable & Sorcery.  I don't see the logic behind it other than "it's my opinion".

So for that reason, just decide what you want from the thread.  If you want to say "This is my opinion about the 10 biggest flops of the year", then change the title to that and stop editing your list, just put in what you believe has flopped.  If you want people to discuss it and the list be decided accordingly, then you need to open up a vote thread for every single game, not just what you 'decided' is going to be number 10.  If you get where I'm coming from.

Yeah I understand.  I'll put it this way I want it to be reasonable so if people thinks I need to make a change I will if there is a good reason like in your case with sorcery.  A lot of the way i ranked it was by brand name obviously call of duty is the biggest brand name so it would go at the top.  Medal of honor and resident evil are also big brands.  The only reason i ranked medal of honor higher is because Resident Evil 6 sold well regardless of it being a bad game.   I tried to take as much into consideration as i could and nobody has been argueing so I take that as a good sign that I was pretty fair at least.  Of course everybody migh re arrange the order a little differently but that is expected.
