Forums - Nintendo Discussion - GamePad costs $85 to repair. Retail price starting at $99?

Wii Motion Plus controller + Nunchuk costs $60
Get rechargeable battery + charging dock for another few $20 bucks or so (supporting 2-4 Wii Motion Plus's)

PS-Move Controller + PS-Navigation Controller costs $60-70 I think

XBox Kinect costs $100+
...

So the game pad at $100 would not be too bad.

this probably the biggest concern I have with the console. I'm very protective of the controller right now because if anything happens to it, I have no way of getting another one right now. My worry that it would cost around 80 dollars retail when they did come out... I evidently underestimated how much they would cost...

Nintendo already said they'd replace/repair. You just can't find them at retailers yet. No worries. Go ahead and impale some TV's.

I can confirm that it is $85 because I had a dead pixel on my gamepad screen and sent it in for repair, they replaced it.

that's one pricey controller, so the Wii U warranty also covers the gamepad?

$85 seems like a bargain honestly, aren't new xbox 360 wireless controllers $60 (maybe they used to be) even if they are $50, that's only $35 more to add a beautiful touchreen in the middle.  btw I do not think they will even be that cheap if they do sell the gamepads by themselves at some point.

Yes, but those controllers cost about half that or even less to make. Controllers and accessories are very high margin items for publishers and retailers.

I'm not sure what your point is, regardless of how much they cost to make, if the gamepad cost consumers $85, thats relatively a better deal than $60 for a 360 controller.

I think he means that an Xbox 360 controller cost 35 dollars to make and is sold for 60, so if the GamePad cost 85 to make, it would be sold for like 145.71 US.

Just saying that $85 seems like a bargain, but it would not be sold at that price point. Since it generally is a high margin item, the price will be jacked up.

Wait. So does this mean that Nintendo covers the cost for the repair, or that we have to pay $85 when things go down south?
Although I'd think with Nintendo's track record, I wouldn't ever need to get my controller replaced... Or so I'm hoping.

Nintendo has already confirmed that WiiU will eventually support a two-Gamepad experience. I hope that when they do show that new 1st party game that requires two Gamepads (E3 perhaps) that they plan to bundle it with the controller, hopefully for $99 by then.

That way it will be similar to WiiFit in that consumers felt like they were spending $90 for the "WiiFit experience" rather than just a pricey peripheral.

Wouldn't it be totally awesome if you could play 2 games simultaneously using 2 GamePads!? :O

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Though the repair rate is higher than I would have liked, I don't think there is much to worry. Nintendo builds the most durable consoles in history.

Nintendo provides a one year warranty so within one year of you owning the console they will cover the cost. Providing you don't void the warranty. If it is past a year you have to pay, but you have another year after you pay.

yes, and when they sent me the replacement they started a new full year from that date, maybe I should have held on to it for a while and got more out of the year before having it replaced.
