Forums - Gaming Discussion - What happened to PS3 exclusive sales in 2012?

In retrospec, this makes third party sales seem higher.

Too many new IP's for this late in the generation, poor advertising, competition was too strong from 3rd parties, they also reviewed poorly :/

Kinda wondering what the budgets for all these games has been actually. PSABR probably had a fairly high budget, and LittleBigPlanet Karting perhaps, but I know Twisted Metal was designed as a downloadable title which had a single player tacked on which indicates it was on the lower end of things and probably didn't need that many sales to be financially viable.

Disappointing year, of course, but not a year of big releases so not a surprise either.

So I take it I was probably the only one who brought all four of them. (On their respective release days as well)

Hopefully next year will be better with God Of War, The Last Of Us and Beyond.... Maybe Ni No Kuni. (Hopefully Puppeteer and Sly Cooper 4 do well, but unfortunately I doubt it :( ).

Is Sony's marketing, the only way people could ever find out these games exist is by walking into a game shop and finding them.

This, unless you are an informed gamer who actually reads, but most Americans aren't.

marketing

Look at those games you listed, those aren't popular by any means.

Twisted Metal - Reboot. It actually sold pretty well considering its a pretty niche genre.

Starhawk - New IP. and its a shooter. Had no chance. Hell even Killzone series which is extremely high quality has trouble selling against the Call of Duties.

PSABR - It's a 2D side-scroller fighting game. Were you expecting 1 million FW or what? For comparison, Street Fighter x Tekken did 119k FW. So I'd say PSABR is off to a good start.

LBPkarting - Another "core" Sony game being spun off to sell to little families. There isn't a big market for family games on PS3 especially not for new IPs.

Tank! Tank! Tank! Is a wii u game or a PS3 game?

Wii U.

It was a failed attempt to do a lame joke. I fail at that.

If you only list what bombed... look at Tales of Graces F (336K so far in 2012 and undertracked), Tales of Xillia 2 (400K in Japan only, just released) and One Piece Pirate Warriors (962K, undertracked).

I like how people are blaming advertising. They were mediocre or uniteresting games. If they were good they would have sold well.
